    Holo Audio Bliss

It'll depend on the headphone. But for lower impedance stuff and IEMs in particular there may be an audible difference. Which you prefer will be upto you (and in some ways you could argue having both options is kinda nice), but easy workaround is to grab an XLR-4 to 4.4mm adapter Yeah the...

Zähl HM1 - Reference Headphone Amplifier

Power cable can sometimes cause issues if its bad. Friend of mine blew several fuses on his amp (not HM1, different amp) whilst using an 'audiophile' cable but using generic ones it was totally fine

    doubts about MQA

Chord is the former, MQA is the latter. There can be a debate for both about subjective sound. But Chord's stuff is based on well known, easily testable principles. MQA's is based on their own explanations and made deliberately difficult to test (with all testing done so far showing that many...

    doubts about MQA

MQA and Chord are not in the same bracket. One is providing a solution that does objectively conform better to the entire principle upon which PCM digital audio is based, and can be easily tested, demonstrated, predicted etc. The other is making claims that are unproven (or proven false) and...

iFi audio iDSD Diablo - A portable reference done our way!

This diablo doesn't get hot either. It's not a thermal issue with the whole unit as such, but small, specific parts of the circuit. As to the level, as said it really can't be tested reliably with headphones unless you're willing to play static signals at ear splitting levels. In any case, as...

iFi audio iDSD Diablo - A portable reference done our way!

This is probably just a case of level When I was doing testing at the spec iFi provided, this will seemingly be way too much for the device (Seriously iFi change your specification to be accurate or make it clear your number has been obtained in a completely non-standard way), so it'll shut off...

iFi audio iDSD Diablo - A portable reference done our way!

Just checked, power/shutoff behaviour is exactly the same regardless of whether it's running on battery or plugged in to a beefy PSU. Getting the same ~3ms full power time before it starts to distort massively

iFi audio iDSD Diablo - A portable reference done our way!

Just got in and tested it. 600 Ohm power spec seems to be on the money, it'll get to almost exactly 0.6W @ 600 Ohm before hitting 1% THD: 300 Ohm: Because of the fact that with higher impedance loads voltage is almost always the limit rather than current, if we plot the THD vs output level...

iFi audio iDSD Diablo - A portable reference done our way!

With the asgard 3 specifically I imagine it's mostly down to the fact that the asgard is a fairly warm sounding amp so it could be that your preference is toward the diablo signature. As to why this might be, it's most likely the fact that the asgard's THD rises quite a lot into the higher...

I've not tested the power of the ADI-2 FS so can't comment. If I get one in I'd be happy to do so

iFi audio iDSD Diablo - A portable reference done our way!

The eco/normal/turbo modes are gain settings. Gain does not determine power unless voltage is the limiting factor. (Its almost always current with headphone amps and lower impedance loads). And even then technically it still doesn't as gain doesn't determine maximum voltage output either...

iFi audio iDSD Diablo - A portable reference done our way!

The numbers for the diablo above are all at 32 Ohm. My Mojo 2 measures 0.5W @32 ohm hence the mention. A 0.3w difference between the mojo 2 and diablo vs a 4.1W difference between the diablo spec and actual figure. Though the mojo isn't the point.

iFi audio iDSD Diablo - A portable reference done our way!

I thought I should post this here as it's something which is likely to be a factor in one's purchasing decisions. The iDSD Diablo is specced as having 4.98W @ 32 Ohm. There is no further info given on the product page other than a voltage value of 12.6V which at 32 Ohms is indeed 4.98W. The...

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

With any I2S source (or AES/SPDIF), the source device be it a streamer or DDC is the master clock. A clock signal is provided from that device to the connected DAC and the DAC then uses that for conversion. Whether there is any buffering/PLL etc done in the DAC is dependent on the DAC. So with...

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

Drivers aren't needed, to be honest they're not needed for any DAC nowadays, they were a problem back before windows had an included UAC2.0 USB Audio Driver but it does now so no need for manufacturers own drivers. BUT, because native DSD requires ASIO, you need an ASIO driver. For just PCM...

    Holo Audio Red Streamer

You need to use ASIO instead of WASAPI to do DSD. WASAPI can only do DSD DoP, not native DSD Latest holo drivers can be found on the Kitsune site or a direct link is here: https://www.kitsunehifi.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/HoloAudio-v5.30.0_2022-2-9.zip Also once done, worth checking the...

    Tidal Masters & MQA Thread!

You can output to either a bitperfect digital virtual audio device such as VB-Hifi Cable, or output via SPDIF to a device which can record SPDIF bitperfect then compare to the original track. I tested a few months back and found that Amazon was bitperfect, but only if you disabled all DSP volume...

    doubts about MQA

The main thing is that MQA is FLAC/PCM. There isn't actually a difference in terms of format itself between an MQA file and regular FLAC file. You can play an MQA file as normal on any DAC because it's just PCM. The thing is that on SOME tracks, MQA does have high frequency content aliased down...
