@zorniki were you using the wired connection, or bluetooth? If bluetooth, reboot everything. If wired, you need amp

@Elzizo : he was referring to JVC Spiral Dots. They are the best sounding IEM tips in my opinion as well.

I can't wait until somebody pairs this kind of tech with real TOTL drivers, like one of Stax or Shure or Audeze's higher end models. The consensus seems to be the Nuraphone is excellent, but still aimed at consumers more than audiophiles.

That's a good looking head model in the pictures! I like the matte finish… this has given me the idea to get some matte spray paint and refinish my own ceramic head

    The Stax Thread III

Well, Stax 'phones only need teeny amounts of current to play. And according to this thread on stackexchange, a changing magnetic field, such as the one caused by your AC music signal going through the MM leads, can induce current flow in an "open" circuit, albeit very small amounts, but...

The mod is SO EASY if you are even a beginner at soldering. There are good tutorials you can find with a search. It took me about 30 minutes. The only thing I would add to the instructions is that if you get one with the older boards, the resistors you need to remove are laminated to the board...

I'll join in on the Lambda Sig love-fest :) I agree that they have a unique mellow and airy sound -- ethereal is another good word for it. They're "low contrast," to borrow a photography concept. They're like turning on the blue-light filter on your phone screen, how your eyes feel instantly...

The funny thing is that I would describe the benefits of solid state amps in exactly the same terms as you guys are describing tubes! SS has a more direct connection to the music, it sounds more natural, whereas tubes are veiled and muddy and get in the way of the pure sound to me. That's an...

I'm thinking about replacing the earpads on my Lambda Signature Pro, because they're really old, but at the same time: if it ain't broke, don't fix it, and they ain't exactly "broke." They still sound fantastic, of course, even though the pads don't make a seal even a little bit (in contrast my...

Great review! Just what I was looking for. Dekoni makes the best pads IMO and you helped me decide between regular and fenestrated sheepskin.

    V-MODA M-100 & VTF-100 Appreciation Thread: Images, Impressions, Reviews.

What kind of headphones are these? I came across these pics in a google image search for something else, and the answer isn't immediately apparent, but they look awesome! So do the Sansui SS-100 later in the thread

    Audio Hunting

In case anyone is interested, the reason Goodwill thrift stores suck these days is that the greedy bastards had a billion dollar idea to auction everything that might be good at their own website, so they don't have to play by any kind of rules. Use at your own risk though, the deals aren't all...

    O2 AMP + ODAC

@MrMateoHead that's extremely unusual to go through multiple ODACs. What kept happening to them? Are you one of the 0.5% of the population with a USB drive that makes the revA go unstable then?

    O2 AMP + ODAC

@Heitosj I know how you feel, nothing is more frustrating than getting your groove disrupted by your equipment! If replacing the jack fixed it for a little while, I'd bet that's still the issue. How sure are you that you soldered the new jack onto the board securely? How sure are you that you...

    Magni 3 Impressions

I don't see what an amplifier's class has to do with anything, are you sure it wasn't something different those amps all had in common? And what do you mean by "balance it out?" I didn't say the ATH-AD2K doesn't scale, I said it is very efficient and doesn't demand much from an amp. At 40 ohms...

What's this about a new volume pot? The old crappy, noisy pot was why I sold mine, but I've been thinking about getting a new one and just replacing the pot with one of my choice, that will likely cost $25+ on its own. Maybe an Alps RK27, maybe an ebay SMD stepper, but the old pot seemed to be...

IME getting it to work isn't a problem, if you're organized and reasonably careful (for example, double checking before soldering anything, following proper ESD prevention procedure, etc.). I too was intimidated by the prospect of making things look nice as well as function, and not too...

Do you currently own a good speaker amp? Why not go full placeholder and use that with a transformer, like a Woo Wee? Is there any reason that wouldn't work for the 007 for now?

    Earbuds Round-Up

What do you mean? The bottom graph is what the system response should look like, which is pretty close to flat. You're not going to hear the notch in the top graph, because there are two speakers overlapping. Obviously this is the way you want things to look, and in real life most systems will...

What is the drawback to a modded 727A? Does it really lack power, or just gain? If I used a big active preamp to push towards the amp's 30V rated input, wouldn't that mitigate all or most of the lack of gain?

    Earbuds Round-Up

Essentially correct :D It's like this: The top graph shows how a subwoofer and midrange woofer would divvy up the frequencies, and the bottom graph shows how the system overall should sound. A crossover isn't a right angle, but a curve. If a subwoofer is crossed over at 100hz, it will play...

    Earbuds Round-Up

How do you like it? I have to disagree with you here. Less than $100 for a TOTL-sounding earbud is fantastic. Of course, there's TOTL and then there's TOTL. But even so, how many earbuds cost more than $300? A couple? The cheapest pair of headphones I've bought in the last several months was...

    Earbuds Round-Up

I'm not sure if that's true. The (now discontinued, sadly) Philips SHE3905 cost between $10-20 and those are at least as good. That was a bona fide giant killer (medium sized giants)

@ahmedie just to stress the point: PRACTICE! Practice desoldering on the PCB out of some junk you were going to throw away (hint: use a desoldering wick!), practice soldering headphone cables and then test them to make sure the connections are good. Read tips and tutorials online, there are a...

    Absolute best budget earbuds?

I emailed A&K this very question right when it came out. The answer that was relayed from the engineers was that it wasn't possible. That may well be true, I haven't had a reason to take mine apart yet, but I suspect it technically would be possible if you wrote your own firmware a la Rockbox!
