Stax Interview and Factory tour 12/12/12
what do you call low and at what VDS? quite a few of the parts I mentioned were SiC Jfets and bipolars, but I agree its an area with the mosfets certainly that is a big problem. another thing was the fact that a Semisouth Engineer is working to understand what parameters are important to audio...- qusp

The FiiO X3 Thread UPDATE: Project Back On! Read the First Post for Information.
I guess i'm to late, but I can help proof read the manual, it may help that I understand the technical lingo quite well to begin with. I have helped with the translation of several DIY product manuals. ahh its not very technical, you should be fine, though I do think the edits still need some work.- qusp

Audioengine A5+ Speaker Upgrades
there is no way you have improved performance if those silmic are decoupling caps (well actually at this size they become reservoir caps), you do know that putting the 2 caps in series like that reduces the capacitance, rather than increasing it right? it only increases the voltage rating, which...- qusp

The Apple diyMod: My Take on the Famous iMod [56k killer] Featuring 3G, 4G, 5G and nano 1G!
incorrect, it must be rated for the entire voltage ie. the DC offset + signal voltage swing raising the cap to 47uf from 4.7 will lower the 3db point and the point intermodulation starts by a decade (for example 4.5Hz vs 45Hz) if driving the same input impedance, I cannot tell you what the...- qusp

I meant accessory 'upgrades' its great the cases you have pictured come with the player, I too have changed my mind, I thought you meant solid white too, I like the translucent white better than black- qusp

oh yeah, oh well another brilliant idea down the drain, killed by a minor detail. I expected the hardcase would not be viable, at this price level and in smallish numbers it would likely increase the cost of the unit by 25% or more. I like silicone cases myself, stops them slipping out and...- qusp

HolyCheese, asking for opinions on the comparative subjective SQ between the cowon and a device that isnt finished yet and nobody has heard, is not the best way to get meaningful information.- qusp

Listening to line-out
well thats odd, because particularly with multidriver IEMs, using a constantly varying output impedance driven by a low current dac output is a terrible idea technically, perhaps you like the erroneous frequency response you are getting?- qusp

What is the best DIY DAC up to $500
the MSB top of the line measures pretty badly compared to top of the line SD dacs that cost much less. in measurements i've seen there even seems to be obvious radiated noise from their own external power supply....- qusp

The Opamp thread
I learn something new every day, I make mistakes regularly when I push into areas I dont know, but I always try to be prepared by doing the reading. I learned through osmosis, one day things just start to click, the Walt Jung papers are an excellent recommendation, as are the writings of the...- qusp

The Opamp thread
no, you cannot, it uses PCB for heatsinking and the tab is live negative voltage. people have done it with the use of isolated heatsinks, but personally I think its a silly idea and you should just use BUF634 I wasnt talking to you, since it still appears you havent read anything about ohms...- qusp

The Opamp thread
haha, I think its more likely the way you (or whatever ebay dac it was) used it sounded rubbish, to say the Jung diamond buffer itself (the discrete circuit both BUF634 and LME49600/10 are based on) sounds rubbish, is quite frankly.... rubbish. opa627 is unity gain stable, but again current...- qusp

The Opamp thread
yes, as ive covered here a number of times, its really not what I would call unity gain stable. they are stretching the truth in the datasheet, it needs a very well laid out and well executed PCB to make this work properly, its very prone to oscillation otherwise and not exactly happy driving...- qusp

Review: iHiFi 812 v2 portable player - an interesting "budget high-end" portable
the 960 seems far too big and clunky to buy to use the digital out and the compulsive ASRC is a turn off for that application as well. you would hope for some significant other upgrades over the 812 for that much extra dollars, the pins and most parts for the digital out are already there so...- qusp

The Centrance HiFi M8 thread
I agree completely about the RSA jack and i've been pretty vocal about it, its magnetic, its tin, its plastic, it has little by way of strain relief and it puts stress on the cable, i'm disappointed it has gained traction, only TRRS is worse... mini 4 pin XLR, Hirose (not the same as lemo) and...- qusp

The Opamp thread
there are many reasons to go balanced, its not a magic bullet, but its not a myth. using the LCD2 and a fairly average balanced dac circuit isnt the best conditions, LCD2 are a piss easy load, one of the easiest headphones to drive of any type, so your main improvement will be from the dac, so...- qusp

The Opamp thread
umm just calling their company esoteric says it all for me. its a ridiculously overpriced, underspecced part in an outdated package that just happens to use a copper leadframe (worth an extra 40 bucks dont you think?), which will be plugged into a brass dip socket.... its outgunned by opamps...- qusp

The Opamp thread
nothing really special about them mate, they are a low power video opamp, thus it does have pretty high slewrate, but that doesnt always make it an easy dropin replacement for audio. its current feedback video slinging brethren such as AD811 are superior video opamps when used for audio, but...- qusp

Leaving portable hifi - it's too silly
yep, its just a temporary case so wont look like this for long, but i'm pretty much done with the current design. its a mix of very high objective spec (kills ODAC+O2) as well as some audiophile overkill for good measure. will be auditioning new transports for it in the coming months. will...- qusp

Leaving portable hifi - it's too silly
portable hifi isnt silly, it just needs the right brand of commitment =) this is home hifi that just happens to be transportable, performance is closer than I would like to my home rig. power to burn, clean as a whistle, 40bit digital volume control (by directly controlling the dac), impedance...- qusp
