Audeze LCD-3 Impressions Thread
The 3’s are and have always been much more transparent to the source than the 2’s, so it being less obvious on the 2’s doesn’t rule out anything upstream. I also can’t opine on the Schiit dacs because I don’t use any Schiit products at all, although I’d be very curious to know if you still heard...- Strat1117

McIntosh MHA200 Impressions
It is doable - you just need a light touch. My original one had to be replaced due to a grounding issue, and the newer one has a much smoother volume knob which makes fine volume adjustments substantially easier (but see below). Hardly! Indeed, I just added a Vertere Phono-1mkIIL to my...- Strat1117

Whisky (or Whiskey) Fi
Yes, that’s the one. Don’t worry, it doesn’t taste like port wine, BUT, it is a high rye content bourbon. I don’t particularly enjoy Woodford Reserve (especially their rye, which I think is terrible) but, if you really just don’t like rye in general (and don’t judge solely by the Woodford rye)...- Strat1117

I suppose we all have different ideas of ‘bank’. You can get the $500 cask strength version.- Strat1117

I’m not the one to describe flavor profiles, but for a bourbon that won’t break the bank, you might like Angel’s Envy. Also, if you can find it, Pappy Van Winkle has a well-deserved reputation as being amongst the finest - but it’s limited production and very hard to come by. I was lucky enough...- Strat1117

My LCD-3’s are recent and have fazors, so different animal. Also not familiar with the particular piece of music mentioned and, although I know it by reputation, I have no personal experience with the Cavalli amp. But, all that being said, I haven’t noticed it either and I listen to a LOT of...- Strat1117

True that - but now we’ve gone even further off the rails, talking about amps and speakers. Although, I will say that the Pass headphone amp is high on my list of ‘must hear’ for the 600, et alno.- Strat1117

The Dekonis are a little deeper than the old style stock pads (I think the new style stock pads are also a little deeper), and they come in a variety of flavors. I like the elite hybrids on mine, but I make no claim about whether or not they preserve the stock sound signature. My (marble)...- Strat1117

If you are enjoying what you have, then that’s all you need. IF you’re looking for an upgrade, we’ll give you all the enablement you need. 😈 I’m not the guy to opine on dacs - I’ll leave that to others - but I think the relatively inexpensive and mostly reversible ring mod from Custom Cans UK...- Strat1117

Totally agree. This is a discussion from 50 years ago, but I am firmly in the camp that believes a well-made (and properly matched) SUT into a good mm phono stage is the best way to listen to a low output MC. Mitchell Cotter did a white paper on the subject back in the day that resonated with...- Strat1117

Watches - another passion of ours, it seems...post your pics!
Indeed, my ‘golf watch’ is my father’s old quartz Tag (I won’t wear an automatic when I play - right or wrong, I feel like it’s not good for the movement)… The face, which appears dirty gray in the photo, is actually luminescent green.- Strat1117

Yes. But at least with the old tube gear you could open it up and have half a chance at finding and fixing the problem yourself, so at least you could get back up and running and feeling like you were productive for your efforts. This SS gear, especially an integrated, is stuffed to the gills...- Strat1117

Thanks. My McIntosh dealer - Audio Classics in Vestal, NY - is kindly sending me another one (BIG kudos to them, especially Ryan K., the service manager/salesman I’ve been working with), which will hopefully tell me if the problem is originating in the input section of the headphone amp or the...- Strat1117

We’re a little off topic, but my current cart is a Lyra Kleos. I have a Black stashed away in drawer that dates back to the Y. Sugano days - I’ve owned multiple rosewoods and rosewood sigs, and an urushi gold, but none of them cast a spell like that humble little Black. You should post a pic of...- Strat1117

Nice tt - is that a Koetsu Black I spy on the business end? If you’re a Koetsu guy, you’ll probably prefer the OTL - I’d suggest a MicroZOTL, but some swear by the BHC kit amp. However, those are not the only two choices (SS or OTL), there are many ways to skin this particular cat. A stiff...- Strat1117

Although it might no longer be perfectly ‘stock’, paintfill on metal is an easy fix, if my limited experience in restoring vintage putters is any indication. I’ve done it a dozen times on both stainless and carbon steel. All you need is a paint pen and an acetone soaked (but not dripping wet)...- Strat1117

The 660S has a different driver - I do not believe that it fits. This particular mod is made for the 580/600/650/6xx. @jfunk (the creator) is an active member here and a great guy - shoot him a pm; he could advise as to whether there is a kit in the works for the 660S.- Strat1117
