Cowon J3 Impressions Thread
Rockbox is good for poorly implemented UI's, but the J3's is nice. That said, some of the community-designed UI's, like Kizune's efforts are awesome alternatives though. I use the standard UI with Aero Music for the music player, as I like the added functionality without having to leave the...- Golden Monkey

Cowon J3 - Personal User EQ Settings
I'll try your settings too, King...the SM3 seems very dependant on source material and equipment to shine, but curiously enough doesn't benefit hardly at all from any sort of amping. I don't know if you changed the "width" settings on the EQ or not, but it looks like my settings have a little...- Golden Monkey

Audio-Technica ATH-ESW9 Vs UE triplefi 10 pro
I have the ESW9's, and they isolate fairly well, but nowhere near IEM levels of isolation. They also are hardly what I would call "detailed" and clean...they DO sound great, but they are more warm and midrangey than anything. They present acoustic music, strings, and vocals beautifully, have...- Golden Monkey

FiiO E9: Line-Out vs Pre-Amp Out Quality
Weighing in on HD650's vs. SS vs. tube amps: HD650's are warm yes, so are tube amps...BUT the thing is a high impedence can like the HD650 or Beyer DT880 (600 ohm) requires lots of voltage, whereas lower impedences require much more current. Much of that HD650 veil/dark signature comes...- Golden Monkey

Review by 'Golden Monkey' on item 'EarSonics SM3 Universal Fit IEM'
What's not to love about these? Ok ok...they're French. Fine. There's not a whole lot I can add to what has come before, but... These very much remind me of my HD650's, minus the openness of presentation. I don't find them muddy or congested, just a tad on the warmer/darker side of...- Golden Monkey

REVIEW: The Headstage Arrow HE portable amplifier
Joel, EXCELLENT review, man. I really like your style (much like my own), and I think we have a similar taste in music, lol. I too am loving my Arrow. Cowon J3 Impressions Thread
Quote: The J3 is great with almost any bud/IEM you can throw at it. Anything you don't like can easily be EQ'd to a state of bliss. I get nothing of benefit with my SM3's with my amp (Arrow) on the J3 other than crossfeed and bass boost, but some phones and more difficult to drive IEMs...- Golden Monkey

Headstage Arrow HE: Reviews, Impressions, Perceptions & Sensations
...but not the power of suggestion, maybe? I'm not saying equipment (especially amps) don't benefit from burn-in/break-in, but a lot of what people claim regarding AMOUNT of break-in (in degrees of difference and length of time required) is ridiculous. Yes, capacitors need some time to...- Golden Monkey

HFI 580/780, Phiaton MS300, Senn HD25 I-II or AIAIAI TMA1
I think the DT880's a little more neutral and flatter sounding, but if you like the sound of them, you should like the T50p as well...think of them as portable DT880's, lol. They have that same smooth overall charachter, with the rich (but slightly recessed) mids, and very clean and extended...- Golden Monkey

HFI 580/780, Phiaton MS300, Senn HD25 I-II or AIAIAI TMA1
I don't see how preferring clean mids and highs means "I don't like bass", but of those listed, I'd go with the Senns. Also up for contemplation (as it meets your mids and highs requirement while remaining portable) would be the Beyer T50p's. Mids and highs to die for, yet with ample bass...- Golden Monkey
