    Eddie Current Zana Deux owners

Recently, I have spent some time with the Zana Deux + Utopia, after spending months with the ECBA > Utopia. It should be noted that the ZD is the amp I am most fond of, despite the bevy of gear I have owned over the years. Unfortunately, I discovered that the ECBA is to the Utopia, what the...

Reply to review by 'ericfarrell85' on item 'Chord Electronics Mojo'

Nice review, although some thoughts I find a little unsettling relative to my own experience. I have not heard the Mojo, but unless this product is so evolved compared to other portable offerings, I have a hard time believing it stacks up to top-tier desktop gear (where I believe the Studio Six...

DAP-off! Astell&Kern, Sony, HiFiMan, Chord, FiiO, Lotoo, Soundaware, Hiby, Cayin & others

Does anyone have thoughts on how these newer Daps perform relative to the bundles of recent memory (I.e, Clas > Alo MK3/Duet). Are there notable sacrifices that come with cramming all stages in a single, often smallish, package? Obviously they deliver on the aspects of convenience, but at what...

    Best headphones for jazz

D,   Let me start by saying that the above list is the very definition of subjective. It should not detract any person from listening to the headphones of their choice to the music of their pleasure. Secondly,  the above ranking is not representative of my feelings regarding the headphones...

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

Why not go on the forums and scoop a used pair for $800-$900? When you consider that you can buy a used HD800 & HD650 for $1150 or thereabouts (those two cover all genres), I wouldn't call it a great value. At the used price they are a nice find and considerably better than the Denon line.

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

Not so simple as all that. I can appreciate different sound signatures. Every headphone in my sig represents a different presentation and ultimately were kept because they did something especially different from the others. As for the HD800, yes, they are my favorite dynamic headphones. It took...

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

That's the point I was making. It's difficult to transition from a headphone that is, in most respects, wildly divergent from the TH900.

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

Yeah, I'm not exactly sure what I mean. I think it has something to do with a closed headphone sounding so open. It's definitely coherent sounding and tuned exquisitely. Still, I'm not "wowed" by them, but more impressed by it's abilities to sound clean and detailed, while keeping the bass from...

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

Seems the TH900 take some getting used to. It's difficult to decipher, but there is something "different" about them. I haven't used a closed-back in years and the past month or so I've been toying with the HD800 exclusively, so maybe that's it. It's almost as though they're open sounding, but...

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

Old though your post is, I see from your profile you're still sticking with your Gilmore Lite (a nice amp BTW). Forget the Wa7 and forget the iFi. One of the best decisions I made in this hobby was making the leap from Mid-fi (wish I had done it from the very start). Save up for the Zana. If it...

Fostex TH900 Impressions & Discussion Thread

Just received the Fostex a few days back. Way to early for comparisons. Honestly, I don't really see myself using the powerful vintage amps for the sensitive TH900. After a little time, I can answer your question about sub-bass and how it compares with the other headphones I have. Early...

    Grado Fan Club!

It doesn't stop at 2275. I own a 2285. While I haven't tried any Grado's with the Marantz, I can say that the 2285 was one of the best amps for the HE6. A stunning combination that rivals any setup for sheer presence, tactility and expansiveness (at a fraction of the price). You need to...

    Audeze LCD-4

Ha, you might be surprised. And I own every headphone on that list, short one (and one I don't feel is competitive). Give the HD650 a Zana Deux and a nice source that digs deep and you'll find you own a 1st class headphone.

    Audeze LCD-4

I think there's a more important message in the $4,000 price tag, than questions of whether it sounds good and how it compares with previous iterations. To even contemplate the current cost of the SR009 as a "bargain" is insanity. Yet, this is the direction headphones are going in. I would not...

    Schiit Mjolnir 2 Listening Impressions

This is the section in your post that rubs people the wrong way. Those people, "who have not heard it with a good source", are in many cases individuals who have owned more gear than you can conjure up in your wildest pipe-dream. Some of those individuals own DAC's that surpass the cost of...

    THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD

No, once in, trapped forever more ;)   I've been hammered with requests for iPads that "lock" in place, specifically for business use. So, this way locks and is removed by two screws. It would be easy enough to make this stand open, with two walls, rather than four. Something like this:

    THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD

Got something very interesting in the pipeline. My big concern lately was dust getting into some of the vintages. I've had to take my HE60 apart in the past for this reason. The SR009, HP1000 and Qualia can also get a little wonky. So for the past 3 months I've been mulling on a stand that sits...

    THE DIY HEADPHONE STAND THREAD

Looking for a new idea for a headphone stand. Headphone Stand + Amp/Dac, +Phone, + Tablet + lights + cabinet for miscellaneous -- all done (or determined as not worth doing).. Now, the most important project, a stand that settles the dust issue is definitely on my mind, but what after?? Anyone...
