++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum
I'm looking for a good full sized phone to plug into my Cowon j3 without an amp. I use Grado 225s primarily, wanting something with a little more soundstage/bass. $300 is absolutely the highest I'd go, but bang- for- the- buck is also a goal of mine. Open or closed doesnt matter. I'd like to be...- Lubanja

Hifiman HM-603
Hifiman players make me nervous based on my past experience with them. If this thing is priced right it could be good. But I have a feeling the appropriately named Fang will pump it out at $300+- Lubanja

Very close to buying a HM-601 but...
be sure to keep the files in their respective folders. hifiman UI sorts by folders so you will need Artist>Album>music for best navigation.- Lubanja

picking a portable source for flac
I enjoy mine and would recommend it. biggest drawback supposedly is the lack of a line out jack in case you were wanting to use a portable amp with it. Some people claim the double amping doesnt make much of a difference but I have not tried it. I also owned a HM-601 and I will say the Cowon is...- Lubanja

Why do people like Grados so much?
I've had my 225i's for about a year now, and find them completely comfortable. I often leave them on for hours while playing games. The headband needs to be bent and the cushions need to be washed. They do require an indoor, low noise environment for best performance. I once tried to...- Lubanja

Cowon J3 Impressions Thread
J3 doesnt play the super high-quality flacs, like 96 or 88khz. just the 44.1 and 44.. or mine doesnt, at least.- Lubanja

Are hi-fi headphones overhyped by audiophiles?
If you aren't using Bit-Matched ASIO or ASAPI playback on PC, then your source is TRASH. It gets muddied by windows or mac with post sound processing. The sound isnt accurate, in other words. And it really sounds like you have no idea what you are talking about when referencing a PSU powering...- Lubanja

All the entry level Grado's the same, except the 325's
I have the 225i's, and at first I thought they were too bright. But after tons of hours on them, the bass has leveled out and the brightness has almost completely faded. Easily my favorite headphones, much more clarity than ATH AD-700s- Lubanja

you have any 88.4khz files to test? I have only seen one 96khz file... 88.4 seems impossibly rare. and pointless. Quote:- Lubanja

RWA iMod or HIFIMAN 801
Honestly, I wouldnt spend so much money on portable audio. Portable source quality doesnt scale nearly as well as home audio equipment. Overpaying for marginal increases in SQ seems like a waste. And if money truly is no object, why not buy both and see which one is better personally?- Lubanja

REVIEW: HiFiman HM-601
My plan is just to RMA it as much as possible. 1 year warranty, any time it breaks make them send a new one til I get a good one. lol. I have been very pleased with this product for the last month or so, since my new one arrived. It sounds very good and, despite the anythingbutipodiots opinion...- Lubanja

What makes one portable player better than the other?
To get an accurate reading, one would have to take the design of every human's ear into account. Surely one person's ear is denser in one area than another. Peaks and valleys being slightly different could potentially make a difference in sound. So if technicality is to be taken seriously, it...- Lubanja
