    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Yep, but they've only got the licenses once held by Gibson this month, and those included the Philips brand headphones. I have to wonder how long we'll be waiting for them to refresh the Fidelio lineup. Its hard to keep track of which brand belongs to who these days. Famous names wind up in...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

There is an article showing that Philips has passed the A/V licenses once held by Gibson over to another company, called TPV. They are located in Hong Kong. There is nothing in the article that mentions the Fidelio line by name, but its a logical conclusion that TPV now has the rights to them...

    Most overrated headphones?

Most overrated headphone I've tried? HD6xx easily. People talk about them like they are the second coming. I found them bland, lacking thump in the bass and bite in the treble when needed. They were also uncomfortable. Preferred my X2 over them with most music, with superior bass and wider...

    FX-Audio DAC-X7 First look

I believe he was asking for the output impedance on the headphone jack. With the X6, it was somewhere close to 10 ohms, making it less suitable for low impedance headphones. Since it uses the TPA6120 headphone amp chip, it will probably be similar.

People not happy with HD650: with what did you change them that makes you happy now?

Sold mine. Solved that problem. The HD650 is one of the most inoffensive headphones I've ever heard. That's not a compliment. They were bland and soporific. No thump in the bass, no bite in the treble when needed. Much prefer my X2 and TH-X00.

    Amp recommendation for TH-X00

If you are just a casual listener, I wouldn't think you'd need more than the Fulla 2. If you think you might expand your headphone collection in the future and get more demanding sets, the Schiit stack (Magni and Modi) will drive the vast majority of headphones well. So it really depends on...

    Amp recommendation for TH-X00

The TH-X00 isn't hard to drive at all. I'd try it straight out of the computer first. See firsthand if you have any issues like hiss, or humming or insufficient volume before spending money on an external DAC and amp. The Zorloo should work also, so try it and see if you can find any differences.

Massdrop x Grace Design SDAC - a budget beast

Got a notification from Massdrop today, stating that the SDAC is "in production" and on schedule for the Dec 12th shipping date. Seems like forever since I ordered it. Massdrop is not for the impatient.

    Fidelio X2 progression..

I tried the HD6xx as an upgrade and didn't care for them all that much. Yes, I know, heresy. If you want to try for a bassy sound that hits harder than the X2 without ruining the mids, I'd recommend the Fostex TH-X00 from Massdrop.

Ok, thanks for the reply OldDude04.

    Mayflower Arc

Hmm, tough crowd. I'd have thought there might be more interest in a direct competitor to the Schiit stack, with some unique features that will appeal to game console users.

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

It might keep tension on the connector, and help it stay in position and not unscrew. And if it isn't actually screwed in, its purpose may simply be to inhibit movement in the joint, and make it less "floppy".

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

My Eikon pads would move around on the locking ring if I deliberately tried to move them, but they didn't feel particularly loose to me. My attenuation rings are about 5mm larger in diameter than the locking rings, so this helped me a little. I put double stick tape in between the smooth side...

    Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00 Review

For those looking for replacement pads for the TH-X00, I've found that the ZMF Eikon pads work well, with little change in the sound that I can discern. There might be a tiny bit less bass, but that is easy to imagine. The Eikon pads fit a little loosely, but not bad, and won't come off. I...

Can we list ALL High Impedance Cans?

Beyerdynamic DT 150 - 250 ohms. I think the Superlux HD330 is still available. It is 150 ohms.

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Mine is a Gibson.  I love the bass with it, but I seem to have a real preference for warm toned headphones.  Since I've never heard the Woox version, I can't confirm or deny a difference in their sound.   Wish I could afford one of the Fostex/Denon headphones, but that may not happen for a...

    Philips Fidelio X2?!

Today I was listening to a song by London Grammar called Rooting for You, which is a slow, female vocal piece.  Listening with my HD6XX it was good, then I switched to my X2 and I was getting chills from the song, it sounded so much richer.  And the rumble in the background in the last few...

Help me decide between Sennheiser HD 650 or Philips Fidelio X2

Sound stage difference is very large between the two sets.  This is one of the more distinctive characteristics of the X2, its wide presentation.    HD 650 is not warmer overall, nor would I characterize it as muffled, not in the bass and lower mids where you get most of the "warm" sound. ...

    The opposite of HD650 please.

The Grado will be bright and in your face, with even less sound stage than the HD 650.  They won't have much bass, but what is there is punchy and won't muddy the sound.  If at all possible, I'd recommend demoing any Grado before buying.  They have a distinctive sound and the fit on ear is not...

    Philips SHP9500 Discussion Thread

Had the 9500, and while it was a good value for its price, it didn't fit my tastes in music very well, being too bright for me, not to mention the annoying loose fit.  I have the X2 now, and they are easily my favorite headphones.  So one more vote for you in favor of the X2.

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Cutting rings out of solid mahogany would leave a very weak structure.  If this is what they are doing, I wouldn't expect many of these to last the five year warranty period at all.  They would have been much better off using plywood with a good veneer.  Or laminating strips on a circular form.

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Woodworker here.  If it is a matter of water vapor absorption from different climatic conditions, no oil or finish will stop this.   In scientific tests, the only thing that really slows down water vapor moving in and out of wood is a thick layer of wax, as in 1" of paraffin.  Which is why they...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

With wood that thin, and the necessity of drilling a hole for the pivot there, they would have been better off making an intentional seam, and possibly a cover strip of metal across there.
