A nice new DAC2 from Benchmark showing at RMAF

I believe that is only recommended when using an analog source since the DAC2 has a hybrid volume control (analog pot for analog sources and digital volume control for digital sources). The analog pot will be massively inferior to the digital volume control in tracking and noise, and channel...

YULONG's new U18 USB 24/192 Async digital Interface

I've replaced my U18 which I believe was defective. After much fiddling including wiping and re-building my laptop the U18 never worked properly. It did work sometimes, but at other times it stopped working completely no matter what I tried and I was at its mercy as to whether I would have any...

    Anedio D2 DAC release

No it doesn't. That was part of the reason I sold mine. I didn't like having to shut my sub off whenever I wanted to listen to my headphones.

A nice new DAC2 from Benchmark showing at RMAF

No problem adjusting the jumpers here. Set to 0dB and working great with my HE-500's and K701's.   I would not worry about the DAC2's reliability. I believe Benchmark products are as reliable as you're likely to find, and in the event that something should fail I don't think you'd ever have...

    K701 thread

Not sure what the conversion rate is but Woo WA7 should be close to budget and works well with K701 IME.

    WOO-HOOOO... WA7 "fireflies"!!!

Quote: I had a chance to listen to the WA7 and T1 together a few weeks ago at SSI and was blown away. I have not heard the HUDA so cannot comment on that, but I can tell you that you're in for a real treat. Of all the stuff I heard at SSI this year (speakers and headphones) that combo was...

Benchmark DAC1 now available with USB

Why do you even need two DAC's? Just use the RCA outputs for the speakers and the XLR outputs for the sub or vice versa. You can buy XLR->RCA adapters or cables if need be.   If you really did need 2 DAC's though you could always just buy a USB->S/PDIF converter and use 2 digital outs from...

    Anedio D2 DAC release

Just send them a message if you're interested. I got mine 2 weeks ago.

FLAC Network streamer for my stereo rig setup

Just get get a Squeezebox Touch. It outputs bit-perfect digital which is as good as it gets. The plugin you're referring to is EDO or enhanced digital output. It allows the Touch to output 24/196 via digital coax instead of the normal 24/96 limit. Not a big concern for most, and with it you lose...

YULONG's new U18 USB 24/192 Async digital Interface

Quote:   The laptop is a 2-year old core i7 Lenovo running Windows 7 Pro. It's definitely powerful enough to run an audio driver. I've been thinking of putting an SSD with Win8 in it partly because of this issue but I'm hesitant because the computer has never had any problems otherwise...

YULONG's new U18 USB 24/192 Async digital Interface

I followed your advice Mr. Casey, but to no avail. The U18 was still not recognized at startup. I then tried updating the BIOS and all drivers hoping this might help but that did nothing. I tried re-installing again on a different port and still no luck. At startup when I look at devices and...

YULONG's new U18 USB 24/192 Async digital Interface

Quote: Thanks Mr. Casey. It's definitely a USB 2.0 port and I don't think anything else has ever been installed there (it's on the back and I always use the ports on the side), but it still isn't recognized at startup.   Thanks for the heads up on the control panel settings! I'm glad...

    Anedio D2 DAC release

You'd probably get better results using the balanced and single ended outputs. Depending on which outputs you're using now just use the others for the sub. You can get XLR to single-ended cables if need be.

    Anedio D2 DAC release

I messaged Anedio again and this time got a response right away. It seems they had responded to me earlier and it was me who didn't get the message. Not sure how as I checked my junk, but the result is that I'm likely going to be getting a D2.

Pictures of your computer rigs! Post them here!

The fit is tight enough that the top of the heatsink presses into the padding on the inside of the case wall but it doesn't dent the side out.   My temps are usually low-30's at most under normal conditions. I've used lots of different fan controllers and found them all disappointing, so...

The Jerker has been discontinued for a few years now....too bad, it was the best desk Ikea ever made IMO and there were a ton of accessories available for them (like the outboard shelves) so you could really customize it to do whatever you needed it to. They sold a lot of them though so you may...

    Anedio D2 DAC release

I'm not impatient, but it's been almost 2 weeks and all I hear are crickets....I'll give them the benefit of the doubt that perhaps they didn't receive my original message and try again.   The only other DAC I'm really interested in is the Benchmark DAC-2 and that's a fair chunk more...

    Anedio D2 DAC release

Anyone have word when the next batch of D2's might be shipping? I emailed them a week ago to see if it would be possible to pre-purchase or if they had any idea how long their backlog is, but haven't received a response. I'm envious of anyone whose business is good enough that they don't feel...

    Whisky (or Whiskey) Fi

For those who do like to add a few drops of water, a trick that I use to make sure you don't get too much water is just make sure your hands are clean, grab an ice cube and let the warmth from your hand melt the ice one drop at a time over your glass. This way you get exactly the number of drops...

    NuForce uDAC-2 Drama (detailed measurements)

Well done, OP. I only wish there was more of this type of information available out there. Other than Stereophile's measurements and a few sites like Audioholics there aren't a lot of reputable sources for independent measurements of audio gear. Thanks and keep up the good work!

Low-Jitter USB: Dan Lavry, Michael Goodman, Adaptive, Asynchronous

Quote:   Is this a serious question or just bad trolling? Quote: Bianci, you are aware that the synchronous USB protocol that Mr. Goodman developed for Centrance is licensed to other manufacturers and is used in some well respected (and measuring) DAC's, right?

Low-Jitter USB: Dan Lavry, Michael Goodman, Adaptive, Asynchronous

I'm not really sure what you're getting at. I've never heard of a USB DAC that didn't work with CD quality audio. Here's one that explicity supports 44.1 over USB and costs a whopping $99. It must be very difficult to do. Maybe designers need to throw lots of money at this problem to get good...

Low-Jitter USB: Dan Lavry, Michael Goodman, Adaptive, Asynchronous

Quote: I would take exception to some of these statements. While in theory asynchronous USB is better than synchronous USB, there are synchronous solutions out there that are so good (arguably as good or better) that it really doesn't matter anymore.   The Centrance DACport costs only...

Pictures of your computer rigs! Post them here!

Quote: I appreciate what you're saying here, although I disagree somewhat with your conclusions. I think Audyssey or ARC do a much better job of correcting room problems than crossfeed or other types of EQ's do to correct the problem of headphones sounding like sound shooting directly...
