    YOUR Top 10 Albums

Tough to reduce the list to 10 and unlikely I'd get exactly the same list tomorrow!   Genesis - Selling England By The Pound Led Zeppelin - How the West Was Won Arcade Fire - Funeral Barenaked Ladies - Gordon Diana Krall - The Girl In The Other Room Jah Wobble - Take Me To God...

Comfort over sound, what pair of headphones should I get?

It's really hard to be certain that you'll find a pair of HPs comfortable because someone else does, but of the ones ones I own, the most immediately comfortable are the Denon AHD2000s, but they do get uncomfortable after a couple of hours, or less if it's warm - my ears start itching and I just...

    Headphones with detachable wire?!

AKG K271 MK II have cables that are easy to replace (the HP comes with 2 cables & 2 sets of pads). Isolation is pretty good for when you're travelling. Not sure how well the do without an amp with most portable devices, they sound fine from a HM 601, but that has a more powerful amp than is typical.

I don't want to see a live show ever again.

Over the years I'd got used to the idea that live rock concerts often wouldn't sound that great, but that changed a few years ago when I saw The Who. The volume was too loud (as you'd expect!), but there was no distortion at all and it sounded fantastic. I assumed that they had simply invested...

    REVIEW: HiFiman HM-601

I've managed to crack the glass in my 601. There was no impact, but the device was stored in my car while camping at -6C (or possibly a little lower) and that appears to have caused the crack. Still seems to play OK though.

HM-601 losing the SD card's songs

The 601 behaves like that with some SD cards (e.g. for me a Sandisk 16Gb Class 4) and it behaves properly with others (e.g.  for me a Kingston 16Gb Class 4)

No issues with Ubuntu 10.10 either

Is the Hifiman HM-601 worth getting?

Lack of gapless is unfortunate, but if you have the disk space to spare it doesn't take too long to convert separate FLAC files into a single file which will play seamlessly. There is no replaygain support either, so if you want a normalised sound level it will be necessary to adjust the files...

    REVIEW: HiFiman HM-601

"Fixed" the problem with the 601 forgetting it has an SD card loaded by swapping to a class 4 16Gb Kingston card, it works as it should. It also loads in my netbook twice as fast as the class 4 16Gb Sandisk card. Now have a spare 16Gb card for my camera (not that I've ever got close to filling...

    The best Audiophile MP3 Player?

Quote: low 70s at a fairly low setting (and no I don't think that's an unsafe level, it's what I use for long term listening, exactly because it should be safe with a good margin for error), the device is capable of making them a lot louder. I could have just written that the device is...

    REVIEW: HiFiman HM-601

Received my 601 this week. Generally pleased so far, except for one annoying "feature". When first switched on the device doesn't recognise any of the files on the SD card (16Gb class 4 Sandisk). The "fix" is to remove & reinsert the card and then use "update media file". Any idea on how I can...

The most downright depressive song you have ever heard

I've always found this a particularly depressing tune, mainly because it's far too well observed. YouTube - Harry Chapin, Flowers are Red (not sure why but couldn't get the youtube tags to work)

Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins, who was the better lead for Genesis and had the best solo career?

I think Genesis initially coped quite well after Gabriel left. OK, Collins wasn't as interesting a vocalist, but the music was pretty close to what the existing fans wanted. It was a different story when Hackett left (I saw him perform late last year, the set included a fabulous performance of...

Need a closed headphone reccomendation for a noisy work environment

I have some Denon AHD2000s and they hardly isolate at all. I've just received some Senn HD 228s, these are small supraural phones which I got for portable use, clearly not in the same league sound-wise as AHD2000s (or HD 650s) and well below your price range, but they block a great deal more...

    Shure SRH840 vs Denon AHD2000?

Why do you want closed back? If it's for isolation the Denon's are not for you. The sound is good, but the isolation is minimal.

Selling England by the Pound is incredible- Any recommendations in this vein?

I love the pre "Phil Collins backing band" era Genesis. In order my preference is: Selling England Lamb Lies Down (sides 1 and 2 more than 3 and 4) Nursery Cryme Foxtrot Trick of the Tail Seconds Out Wind and Wuthering Genesis Live Trespass At the time when I first discovered Genesis...

Another classic British band from that era is Supertramp, try "Crime of the Century" or "Crisis, What Crisis?"
