Couple with spikes or use an isolation riser?

Last night, I ended up picking some Mirage OM6 speakers up off craigslist for a great price for a floorstanding 2.0 setup. These will be going in my apartment in about a month once I move in. The living room floor is carpeted. It might be worth considering that the speakers are fairly unique...

    Mirage OM6?

There's a pair of these up on my craigslist for 450, I googled around some and I couldn't find much except a stereophile review, it seems these were 3000/pair from 1997-2006 when they were made, and I figured they were atleast looking in to since I've been starting to look into a 2 channel set.

    Top 5 Closed Back Cans

I would definitely say some heavily modified denons are worth throwing in the mix here, stock the d2k/5k(same drivers) are good headphones, but are very V shaped. If you do the full dampening mods, wood cups and stuff pads they improve drastically.

EHHA Rev A - Interest Thread

Quote: It is the A3, the metal housing of the switches is right against the front panel. I'll check resistances over the weekend, my weeks have become consumed by school work.

I didn't tin any of the leads, except the signal output wires. I did remember to clean them though(It was only 2 wires).   The jacks should be insulted, they are the neutrik D series jacks: http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=092-232   The shields are just floating, I...

EHHA Rev A - Interest Thread

Sort of a strange update, I actually reflowed a bunch of joints on the problem board before I left to go back to school. After I measured those voltages last night, I figured I might as well check the DC offset. Well, to my surprise it had actually dropped to 0 mV, as same as the good board was...

    Sorry for the delay, school arose as a delay again.   Q11B(Ground was placed on pad 2) pad 2 to pad 3 = 18.0 V pad 2 to pad 1 = 20.6 V   Q10B(Ground was placed on pad 2) pad 2 to pad 3 = -16.5 V pad 2 to pad 1 = -19.7 V   Those measurements are from the problem board, I can...

EHHA Rev A - Interest Thread

Well partway through the wiring I decided to fire it up for kick and giggles.   I have a 2 stage power switch installed, so I let the tubes heat for a minute or two before turning the amp on. When I turned the switch to both on, the board I just finished light up, at that point I remember I...

I gotta find a multimeter since I conviently left mine back at school...but as for IC1, it is currently oriented(Tube is bottom center for reference), with the dot on the op amp in the lower right.

EHHA Rev A - Interest Thread

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet, I've been packing to go move back for college.   I wouldn't really recommend this for a first project, I started with a minimax kit(great for first ambitious DIY'ers), then did an opus dac, then this.

EHHA Rev A - Interest Thread

I'll get some pictures tomorrow, but I am following the Cavalli instructions I pretty much get to this part(Rail supply reads around 27 VDC, tube heater output is 6.30VDC) : Amp Power Up Look for smoke. If there is none, proceed. Wait for the output DC to settle into the low mV range. If...

    Using soundcard and dac?

After starting to play some fps's again after building my new dac(dual mono opus), I realized that while it sounds much better than my zero dac, its positional sound in games is pretty poor. I was wondering if anyone had ever run an External DAC, and an internal sound card such as an x-fi or...

EHHA Rev A - Interest Thread

What size standoffs does everyone recommend? I have a 3" tall par metal enclosure, and the glassjar kit. I was thinking 1/2 in for better airflow than 1/4 inchers, but will that fit in a 3" tall case with the heatsinks and tubes?

Got mine as well, I ended up with the Mod. RA1. Everything was very nicely packed and labeled. I will be building it shortly and posting impressions with my d2ks.

    Who uses head-fi?

I'm 19, got into headphones at 16(Yes, I'm a guy). Now I'm building an EHHA, just finished a dual mono opus, and have some markl denons with woody cups, recable and stuffed earpads. So, I'd say I'm pretty serious.

Denon d2ks are worth a look. Decent unamped, and great modding potential.

Thinking about my first DIY : Millett Hybrid MiniMax. How hard is it for a first timer?

I also built the minimax as my first DIY project, and I also can say TomB was a huge help. My biggest tips would be take your time soldering and check your resistor values before you solder. But, yes it is very doable for a first time DIY'r, especially with how complete the kit is from beezar...
