    3-meter / 10-foot IEM Cable

Hello All, I finally got my hands on some Westone W40's, and I'm enjoying them. These are hardly an obscure set of 'phones, but here's a link anyway. My usage of these is consists of plugging them into a (desktop) computer sitting on the floor under my desk, and with me standing at my desk...

Review by 'suburbanite' on item 'AudioQuest DragonFly Black'

This review is for the AudioQuest Dragonfly "black." To disambiguate which DragonFly is which, you can read Audioquests's blurb: http://www.audioquest.com/dragonfly-series/ OK, disambiguation addressed, I'll start my review by saying that like most anyone who's ever bought a DragonFly, I...

Review by 'suburbanite' on item 'Sony Hybrid Black In-Ear Headphones - XBA-H1'

DESIGN Large, bulky, arguably overbuilt ear elements Perfect for those with larger hands as the ear elements are easy to not only handle but also to remove from one's ears Large ear elements may be problematic for those with smaller ears- may excessively contact outer ears Cable does have...

:sunrise: Official 2015 SF Head-Fi Meet Impressions Thread

So glad I went!   This year was my first meet attendance as last year it just..... didn't really occur to me to attend. Not sure why.   This year I got to the meet late but there was still a lot to see and hear.   For the first time, I got to try out some electrostats which was cool...

    Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I will be using them with my HT Omega eClaro sound card which I understand has a solid state amplifier Denon TX-NR509 stereo receiver which is.... a mystery box because I don't know what its headphone-out resources are, but it powers my rather power-hungry Grado SR 225i's well enough  ...

    black USB soundcard for notebook

My bad. I shouldn't have used the on-the-go acronym. I get lazy swiping on my tablet. I merely meant i need an ultra portable USB DAC/AMP. Tiny and light as possible. Budget is <$150 could get an audio quest dragon fly from my local best buy this afternoon, BUT... I want to...

what a direct upgrade from Sennheiser HD 558 would be

I've had both the 558s and the 600s. and though I had the 600s about two years ago, I believe they were smoother on the upper end than the 558s. No need to buy new 600s, just check the classifieds on this site.

Having trouble deciding between Audio Technica ATH-ESW9 and ATH-ES10

Since both headphones are from the same brand, you could call the manufacturer and get their feedback- tell them your requirements, etc.

    black USB soundcard for notebook

By "black," I mean free of any white noise, hissing, static, etc. Listening through EARPHONES ONLY, often through Etymotics, hence the requirement for blackness. Not using headphones at all, so no need to power any high-impedance full size cans. I will be using it with pc windows 7 notebook...

Workplace Earphones w/ Fast, Neutral Sound?

I have found them!   They are the Etymotic MK5 earphones.   $60.   Un-blingy.   Quick ingress and egress, at least if you use them with single-flanged silicone tips.   Fast, speed-metal-friendly sound.                       Yay!

    ER4P > HF5? Are you sure?

I finally broke down and bought the MK5's.    I'm using them as my leave-them-at-work earphones and they're great for that because if they get stolen, I won't be too angry about it (though still angry).   I'm using them with Westone silicone Star Tips.   What I can report: they came with...

    ER4P > HF5? Are you sure?

And... despite the contention that the MK5's outperform my HF5's, I counter that my HF5's are an overall superior product because they are more beautiful, as seen in my account avatar.

    ER4P > HF5? Are you sure?

So it's the MK5's that are at issue.   If the MK5's have the clarity that you describe, they should make an awesome semi-disposable earphone that you can take to work, public transit, the library and other semi/public places where you want a sound signature of that description but you...

    I Hate Etymotics- Please Help

Got 'em, they're a nice, tight fit over the driver nozzles of my HF5's.   Pleased enough with the product and its value that the image thereof will temporarily represent my Authentic Self.

    ER4P > HF5? Are you sure?

My HF5's are slowly dying so it's time to either replace or upgrade.   I have enjoyed my HF5's because I like fast, precise bass and don't want anything with a "slower" sound.   I seem to like the idea of spending less on their replacements but the lower-tier model, the MC5s, were adjudged...

Will a DAC eliminate EMI (humming/buzzing) noises on a PC/headhpones?

Looking at post #13, I am reminded that I auditioned many headphones through a NuForce Icon DAC which was connected not via optical but instead through usb and it worked fine. No noise. Granted, it was at an audio dealer who had a fancy, super-thick, expensive-looking USB cable, but it did work...

Will a DAC eliminate EMI (humming/buzzing) noises on a PC/headhpones?

I'm still (!!) learning audio vocabulary, but my understanding is there are two sounds you can hear- the 'signal' which is what you want to hear, and 'noise' which is what you don't want to hear. This is exemplified when you're having a phone conversation- the other person's voice is the...

    HELP- RE-400 Large Tips?

Just got my RE-400s recently and can't get a good seal with the largest-size double-flange silicone tips that came with them.   I tried some Sony eartips I had from some other earphones, and they're working for now. They're the largest ones you see in the image below, with the turquoise...

Will a DAC eliminate EMI (humming/buzzing) noises on a PC/headhpones?

On yeah- a lot of people use a stereo receiver if it has its own DAC/AMP. In my living room entertainment center, I have an Onkyo TX-NR509 receiver which has both HDMI and optical inputs- I don't know if the optical input is TosLink or SPDIF, but they're all optical audio.   So my sound goes...
