"Open Alpha" T50 3D printed headphone project from MrSpeakers

Hi, sorry if this is a bit of a simple question but I'm afraid of bricking my driver and am not sure if this is the right way to remove it. There are two clamps holding down the driver on the top and bottom of the picture, do I need to pry those back to remove the driver? edit: image too big...

    Waterproof Ciem possible?

If you're talking about dampers filters, then no, they're not waterproof. They'll absorb the liquid and render them useless until dried out. Maybe use some sort of mesh like this one (http://seiren-electronics.com/english/moisture_permeable_waterproof_tape/)?

    Westone W30 help

Repairing a BA driver isn't exactly the most viable thing to do. If you contact Westone support they might be able to help you though.

Noise on one IEM i recently got

The source in this case would be the Fulla 2, not your PC. The issue is that the noise floor of the Fulla 2 is too high. Like mentioned above, if you don't want a better DAC/Amp, you can get an attuneator like the iFi Ear Buddy.

Got a little water in my headphones

It should be fine to use by now, however, if you're really worried, you can use some sort of moisture absorbent, like silica gel.

HELP!! Is Windows corrupting my FLAC files?

Assuming transferring it via USB didn't work, why not try transferring it through wifi or a online storage site (ie. Dropbox)?

Amplifier or portable Dac, do I need one?

If you send it a digital signal, via USB, it uses both the DAC and the amp. If you use an analog signal, via the 3.5mm input, it uses just the amp.

Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro or DT 1990 Pro?

Difference between them is the build material. Drivers are the same.

I don’t understand why people use headphones in properly treated studios. Any ideas?

Because when you make music, you’re making it for an audience who will probably listen to them on headphones. You need to make sure it sounds good on headphones as well.

    Best possible $50 iems?

Maybe something from KZ? They make some good budget IEMs.

    Best earphones for running?

I’ve had this issue with my older phone case which was pretty thick. If your case is relatively thin then it shouldn’t be an issue. However, while the phone was in my pocket, there were some drop out and loss in quality. It didn’t happen often enough to bother me though.

Torn over CIEMs: Sonic Ears 5-Way Ultimate vs. Ultimate Ears UE18+ Pro?

I'm nitpicking here but the iPhoneX does have an internal DAC. It just doesn't have a headphone jack. Speakers in it wouldn't work otherwise.

    Apogee Groove vs. HDV 820

Measurable different, 100%. Audible difference... well I think it's better if you go try yourself and come to your own conclusions. Just make to volume match as well as you can.

    Sennheiser HD820

The Gorilla Glass was a cosmetic choice. They could have used anything that was stiff enough to reflect the sound waves. If you were to damp a headphone to the point where no reflection occurs, you'd need enough damping material that it'd basically just end up as a closed headphone. Too much...

Trouble with AMP power maths. advice?

Sort of. It's one of the reasons. There are other causes of why the output may be higher, like, for example, the efficiency of the amplifier. You also don't need A4-BL to run the HD660S, the A4 is more than enough.

Why is high end music gear mostly the realm of men?

Sounds like a terrible idea... If you do that, there won’t be anyone to rein in the men from spending a ridiculous amount of money on audio gear and the great depresssion will strike once again.

Trouble with AMP power maths. advice?

No you can't. Since it uses a mini XLR 3 pin, if you wanted to use it for balanced operation you'd need to mod the headphone to support balanced.

Suggestions / Recomendations to Replace SRH 440

The build quality is quite a bit better on the SRH840, especially since that flaky headband cover on the SRH440 is different. However, it still has that "falling off your head issue with the slightest movement" that the SRH440 has.
