The Official Sony TA-ZH1ES Hi-Res Headphone Amplifier (Live From IFA 2016)
Same, as long as I don't move around too much. I generally prefer the IER to the MDR for pure sound quality, especially with the Taz, but the MDR has a unique presentation IEMs can't quite replicate, so having both is the best of both worlds, especially with Signature Series sources.- gLer

Great story, love the passion you have. And dude, that is the single best looking Bird design I've seen to date. Blows the socks off the OG. Total mystery why he didn't release it with the 'right' colours like yours. Enjoy it! Patience is a virtue. In two years' time it'll sound just as good...- gLer

Does that include used price? I reckon many here bought far more expensive IEMs for ~$1200 on the used market than they did retail. I know I did. If it does, Z1R (obviously). If not...hmm...probably Meze Advar, of the sub-$1200 IEMs I've heard.- gLer

Same here. I hold a special spot for U12t. It popped my TOTL IEM cherry, and was the beginning of the end of my love affair with full size headphones. The only thing it misses is that natural DD bass sound, which is similarly lacking from Traillii and the only reason I wouldn't consider owning...- gLer

NEW SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2
No, but from everything I've read about the M9, you can't really compare it with the Z1R. They're two different animals. @Damz87 may be able to shed more light on the differences, but M9 was designed as a stage monitor, and Z1R as an audiophile/enthusiast IEM.- gLer

I think your shared experience is worth infinitely more than the nitpicking over headphone rankings. I mostly share a love for film and TV with my son, but whatever is shared, that bond is gold.- gLer

You can definitely keep them looking clean. Living in a warm climate with my oily-ish hair, I'd be wrapping up the headband with one of those e-Bay wool covers and judiciously wiping down the pads after each use. Put it this way, Clear is one of those headphones I wouldn't buy used. For my use...- gLer

I haven't heard the Clear, but I had the Elex (or Elear with Elex pads, as it's otherwise known), and enjoyed it very much. Easy to drive, not fatiguing like Utopia, great sound with enough warmth and technicalities for most genres. It loses to the Z1R in build quality and comfort, but is more...- gLer

HD800 bass is outstanding - speed, quality and texture. But no source I know of will get it to dig deep into the sub like a closed headphone or nuclear-powered planar. Bass weight/quantity is not what the HD800 is about. It's a soundstage/imaging/separation/timbre/resolution king for...- gLer

One of the most comfortable headphones I've owned, alongside HD800. Can wear them all day. Magnesium alloy build but ultra light with plush thick sheepskin pads that evenly distribute the weight. Also among the very best build quality I've seen, easily rivaling and sometimes surpassing the...- gLer

There's only one headphone I know that fits all your criteria, because they're exactly the same as my criteria. Sony MDR-Z1R. It's also a headphone you can comfortably drive with a DAP, but will continue rewarding you with desktop sources. Very few, if any open back headphones will give you the...- gLer

I'm not really into rankings any more, so other than my top pick in each category, I've split my list between headphones and IEMs in random order. All of these I have either owned or auditioned extensively, and I expect the list will change as I get to hear more gear. IEMs Sony IER-Z1R...- gLer

NEW SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2
Those are exactly the misconceptions that kept the Z1R out of my small ears for 4 years. Then I did something radical...I tried them myself. 😮 Long story short, I sold everything else, and other than the IEMs I get in for review, I'm not interested in another IEM until and when Sony sees it fit...- gLer

Wow, this is cool. It never ceases to amaze me how many 'new' female vocalists I discover every week, despite having a collection of thousands. A quick listen suggests this is another one to add to the collection. I'm definitely far more of a music collector than anything else. I currently have...- gLer

I have one main IEM and don't listen to it every day. Mix that up with review listening from time to time, a set of wireless IEMs for casual listening, and full-size headphones for when the mood strikes, and I'm already neglecting my primary system for large chunks of the week. I guess some...- gLer

NEW SONY NW-WM1Z M2 / WM1A M2
I wish more companies would do this. It's ridiculous having to think about upgrading expensive DAPs (or IEMs for that matter) every other year. A 5-6 year gap between flagship releases, with meaningful technology updates, is the way to go. Heck I'm using the 'ancient' original WM1Z in favour of...- gLer
