Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Another approach is to copy or adapt the Audeze LCD3 damping scheme; discussed earlier in the thread. Especially recommended if you're using stock pads.

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Just figured out how to best wear these headphones, lol ... Well, first put them on your head then press the drivers in so that the pads squish towards your head. Release. Enjoy! Because the pads are so large, it's tough to get a good acoustic chamber without first pressing the pads in.

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Part of the reason for using fabric against the driver is that there is less risk of it breaking down and falling onto the diaphragm which would really wreck havoc on the sound. Is there another kind of material you can try? Any kind of paper is probably not the best to use against the driver...

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

I had no idea. That they did it that way is interesting and makes it worth exploring. The M1060 has a very similar driver structure.

I happened to have some lying around. A good fabric shop should have something similar for single digit dollars.

Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

I’ve been following the conversations on how to mod the M1060s with interest because I’ve had them in constant comparison mode with the Hifiman HE-500s since I got them. From the get go I’d been hoping they would quickly dethrone the HE-500s as my daily go-to headphone. Ah yeah, it didn’t happen...

    Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

\ Just have a note to add to this. This is pretty much what I found out about my Pioneer SA9500II. When I separated the amp section from the preamp I had not idea just what an incredible amp stage it was. The preamp was actually the main drawback even though together I still considered it a...

    The Ghost in the MP3

So if I had a wave file of a track and a compressed version of the same track, AudioDiffmaker would be able to compare the two and extract the difference into an mp3 file, is that right?

    The Ghost in the MP3

Just finished reading the synopsis on the link Currawong posted but haven't read the full conference paper just yet. I think this is a very worthy study if approached from a neutral perspective. There tends to be a lot of defensive posturing around this subject that I find quite unusual for such...

On a mission to like jazz

Meant to post this some time ago, but never got around to it: Clint Eastwood's film biography of Charlie Parker - both tragic, funny, and acutely musical at the same time. Well-worth watching if you've never seen it. Watched it recently after my summer jazz fest outings. Forest Whitaker, one of...

On a mission to like jazz

@Spyro, I completely understand your frustration and and I think that is part of what easily turns people away from jazz because they are immediately thrown to the deep end of jazz where the current is quite swift and they have no hope of catching the jazz wave. My first post to this thread...

Head-Direct / HIFIMAN Customer Service TEAM

Have you ruled out other possibilities? For example, try a different cable if you have one, and if not, check for conductor continuity in the cable you have using a multimeter. Just my 0.02 but I'm sure TeamHifiman will chime in.

On a mission to like jazz

Thanks guys! I'm slowly making my way through the other links posted in the thread. Of course some things are painting outside my radar and that's cool, it kinda helps reinforce what I like. Some things are instant discoveries, which I think is the point of the posts, so thanks to everyone who...

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.

Been away trudging through the local jazz fest (I live in Vancouver, Canada).I posted my update basically when I was heading out for the jazz fest so didn't have time to post links. The pad to driver seal is basically what Jerg sets out here (see #3). My seal is very basic and does not involve...

    Calling All "Vintage" Integrated/Receiver Owners

Lol ... I've bought vintage receivers, integrated amps just to run headphones. What can I say ... Recently found a fantastic matching integrated for the Sennheiser HD650s, very obscure Korean made Citizen JSA 8 which I gifted to my son. It's the best amp I've found so far for the HD650s and I've...

what is the best portable music player to have?

If you're starting a test with the idea that it 'shouldn't be audible' the test is already flawed. I see two kinds of biases going on here . . .

what is the best portable music player to have?

Interesting discussion ///   For the test I would agree with FFBookman that a standard needs to be established first in order to determine encoding differences. In other words, the original uncompressed source should serve as the initial parameter, or benchmark sample. After that it may be...

I'm with you there . . . at the price bracket the HE-500 is currently sitting there is nothing better. It's the best deal for headphones out there.

Is the Hifiman HE-6 clearly a league above the Hifiman HE-500?

Nice! Are you going to be pitting the HE1000 against the HE6 on it? I can foresee another thread sprouting soon "Is the HE100 clearly a league above the Hifiman HE-6?" And really there should be simply because the HE6 has been the stallion of the Hifiman stable so far. Perhaps the HE1000 won't...

    Hifiman HE-1000 coming

Hey Dale ... another thing that was missing was some kind of announcement here on Head-Fi, which would have alerted a lot more head-fiers who've been following the development of the HE1000. Yeah ... in terms of the room, not really the best spot to share the room with a speaker demo . But still...
