Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

Thanks George. I'm out of the Headfi loop these days and I just wanted to know from a rock/metal perspective if the hype was legit. Apprec!

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

Hey guys, looking for a mid tier DAP. fIIo M11 is getting a lot of good reviews. Any thoughts on on this DAP for rock and metal?

Hey Redcar, I haven't posted here in a long time, but I get this thread sent to my email that I put in a separate folder and go trough it from time time. I always read your posts when I'm here and you gave me some great DM back in the day. Vader! Thought I'd chime in as I've also had the dangest...

    Lets Talk Metal

Hey guys, I haven't been post much here lately, but I still lurk to see what's up. I just posted my top 50 albums of 2017 over at M-F. A little late to the party as I picked up crazy amounts of music over the last few weeks to assimilate. Here's my list sans album writes ups: 50...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

Hansotek, as usual you knocked it out of the park. Remember these posts? I went to Capital Audio Fest today and I was thrilled to see Periodic Audio was attending. I've had those Beryllium in my mind since your post back in July. I went through their line up with my Ipod-just an Ipod, and the...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

That might be the way to go. I was thinking initially of a DAP to store my music, but the memory card would take care of some of that. A little higher end than I was thinking, but it would solve several audio problems in one fell swoop. It wouldn't limit the kind of HP either. Would that...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

You guys are awesome-I'm working from complete ignorance. Here's my issue, I downloaded my entire CD library a couple of years ago which took months, and threw everything on a NAS that I use with SONOS as a transport through a dedicated Nuprime DAC/Pre/HP amp and that is the brains of my two...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

Thanks. What kind of sources were you/do you use with your IEMs. I'm hoping to use them at the gym with an Ipod and at work with a desk amp/DAC. I'm guessing a lot of you guys are using higher end DAPS. Just curious. Also do the the nicer IEMS come with ends for How about amplification for...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

I've been enjoying my Shure SE215 more than I thought it would. Coming from Hifman's RE-400 and then Etymotic hf5 (which I liked quite a bit for the detail and clarity), these guys have more bass presence, a warmer sound sig and recessed highs-normally not a good thing, but it makes this little...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

For two grand they better be-holy crap! I'm not spending over $150 or so. I don't see using IEMs for dedicated listening and don't really like IEMs (things sticking in my ear canal isn't my favorite) other than utility when I'm at the gym, etc.

    Lets Talk Metal

Hey guys, I dropped off the grid when Headfi went offline. My log-in or PW wasn't recognized. Just reset my PW and I look forward to catching up on the metal discussion. New metal for me has been Loss, Nokturnal Mortum, Sabbath Assembly, Solstafir, Havukruunu, Ungfell, Ruins of Beverast and...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

Oh, the X is a great headphone. I could have been happy with one.   I'm using a Nuprime DAC-1Oh. It's one of these hub multi tasking units-DAC/PRE and HP amp. It's been ideal for me as I can switch inputs and switch from headphones to speakers with the ease of a remote.  It took care of...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

I've been quite happy with my LCD-3-it's endgame for me.  I have a Dharma which I've kept as they contrast quite well. That said, I listen to a set-up that accommodates speakers and headphones in the same rig, and I've been using my speakers more than my Headphones. But, headphones for extreme...

    Lets Talk Metal

Well, that's definitely the trend. I think metal fans, maybe along with jazz/classical fans are the exception. If anything, I might pick up a different master like the 80's Black Sabbath Castle masters or the recent Beatles remasters from 2009 which I do think sound appreciably better than...

    Lets Talk Metal

Same. A lot of metal fans are collectors. I've never had that "completest" quotient in my music collecting-every album; bootlegs, unreleased tracks, live tracks, DVDs, paraphernalia. Now, I may own all or must of a bands discography if I think their entire discography is essential, but I...

Do you remember giving me some death metal suggestions last year? I think you recommended Bloodbath's Resurrection Through Carnage. I just got around to listening to it. Good stuff! If there was an award for most easily understood DM vocals it might be a tie between Akerfeldt and Mikael...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

Thanks for the CanJam recap fellas. I was curious what impressions would be like. Guess I'll have to listen to the Atticus. Although between my killer new LCD-3 and Dharma I'm feeling bases are covered for the moment....and wallet is empty.

So, it's been slow around here. OK-some variety coming right up....           A couple of pick-ups for me   from the things you might have missed in 2016 category, I bought Eight Bells after seeing them on some lists and streaming their album Landless. You can't break you cranium 24/7...

I've always wondered about those. They do look cool. Do they handle metal well?

The Kinks were also an influence on early punk. You can hear it in the energy of their songs. Ray Davies should be as big a name as Clapton or any of the rest....what a great songwriter.

Thanks Alchemist-great thoughts as usual. I was thinking the HD600/650 and HE400i would be obvious choices. And, good point, for a lot of kids that would be high end. But maybe the Fulla2 and something in the $100-150 range. And, then so many kids just want to listen to IEMs on the go.My...

Headphones for metal music - ultimate solution

Thanks mystictryk!  That sounds like a great set-up especially if it works for metal for the young metalhead. I've always heard the HD 600 and 650 are picky with amps. But, that sounds like a killer low cost answer.
