Momentum VS MDR-1R?
Trust me... if the earpads on the Momentums had been just a little bit larger I definitely would have kept them. Shame on Sennheiser for calling them over-ear headphones. I haven't heard the MDR1R but I don't think they're quite lacking in bass, they just don't have the same presentation or...- yokken

Momentum VS MDR-1R?
Honestly I would tell you to return them and try out the MDR1R... I loved the sound too but if you can't wear them long enough to appreciate it, what good are they?- yokken

Momentum VS MDR-1R?
You are just experiencing the small size of the pads. That, and your ear shapes may not be perfectly symmetrical. I had to tuck my ears inside the Momentums to get them to fit right, which made them start twitching after about 30 minutes... I loved the sound and design, but I had to re-adjust...- yokken

Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread
Dang, you weren't kidding! Those vocals are amazing. Matt, I think you thought this was the wrong thread... of course I would EQ down treble on the HE-400, but I would still push sub bass up...- yokken

Quote: Was it on when you did that? It may have just been the DAC's clock disengaging, or something like that. I'm not sure that's the right terminology but my Bifrost clicks sometimes. I read on the Schiit website that it's the clocks switching.- yokken

Sick of buying headphones
I would not call the HD280s comfortable, let alone crazy comfortable. You're crazy, man. Those things are clamp monsters. They make my jaw hurt after an hour or two. They are durable though. But definitely nowhere near what I would call comfortable. Maybe not as bad as the M-Audio Q40s, but I...- yokken

My Lyr provides an enjoyable amount of midbass slam. A demo song would be Sin City from the album Cruel Summer. The bass in the beginning of that song makes my HD650s rumble. It's awesome.- yokken

I'd definitely get the HD650s if you want richer mids, much improved comfort, and don't mind losing out on the super-textured and extended bass. The HD650s have a nice punch to them and go surprisingly low (lower than I initially thought) but they can't hold a candle to any planar cans as far as...- yokken

Quote: I'm talking about the entire setup in general. DAC, amp, and headphones themselves. It's like you're saying unless you can afford to fully amp a pair of headphones, don't get them at all. I think that's just ridiculous. I don't want to sound like I'm attacking anyone here...- yokken

So, what, people should stick to low end headphones with low power requirements until they can afford to drop $1000 on a setup that will allow them to hear any headphones to their fullest potential? I just don't see the sense in that. I haven't heard of any damage being caused by...- yokken

I'm quite confused with all of the people saying the O2/other desktop amps "can't drive the DT880/600". I mean, my E17 doesn't sound nearly as good as my Lyr, but it still sounds good! Either you guys have extremely high standards or your ears are broken.- yokken

I have also experienced quite a difference in the way I remember the HD650 sounding when I got it and the way it sounds now. I don't remember them seeming detailed but they did have some awesome bass punch to them. Now I think they have a little bit less (but more controlled) bass, though still...- yokken

Man, I really don't know how anyone could think the HD600 has more bass than the HD650. That just seems ludicrous to me. I know about driver variation and all that jazz, but I can't honestly believe that any revision of the HD600 is bassier than any revision of the HD650, variation included.- yokken

The HE-400s (and presumably all planar headphones) leak so much sound it's not even funny. It's almost like they're putting more sound out than in! The DT880s leak a fair bit but if you don't crank it up, I can't imagine you'll really bother people too much... I work in a cube and I think...- yokken
