    Avantone : Pro Planar

All the screws were well tightened, there was no change in sound signature.

    Avantone : Pro Planar

Uh. Going to try that tonight. It seemed to me, during my last comparison, that the Planar was more congested than usual, which I assumed it was due to the comparison to electrostats.

    Avantone : Pro Planar

I was also looking at the HE-6SE from Adorama, but frankly, I have enough Planars for the moment and I wanted a nice Dynamic headpone.

    Avantone : Pro Planar

Man, that sucks, hope you can get a reimbursement. Well, that settles it for me. I'll be testing against my old LCD-2, then I'll return them. They have a nice, balanced sound, but they will break sooner or later: that metal piece holding the strap is so flimsy it's ridiculous! Elex already...

    Avantone : Pro Planar

Got a cold, won't continue the reviews today. I tried the original pads, and yes, the clamp force does go down and the treble is slightly tamer, but then balance is still tilted towards the highs. At the moment, due to my condition probably, I cannot stand listening to the Sundara more than a...

    Avantone : Pro Planar

Well, it really sucks that the build quality is so lousy on these.I don't have any issue on mine (#17), but I'll keep watching them. Luckily, I got them from a local dealer, so I can get a reimbursement or a replacement pair easily enough if something happens... I hope. Well then, let's...

    Avantone : Pro Planar

I have the 2020 version. I bought it during the summer. I do have Dekoni pads on these (hybrids), so I will test with the Dekoni and with the original pads. It appears to follow the Harmon Curve very well. However, that curve is a preference curve, not necessarily what everyone perceives as...

    Avantone : Pro Planar

Well, it's the next one I intend to do, though from memory I probably won't come out with the same conclusions as yours. Hopefully I'll have time tonight.

    Avantone : Pro Planar

I've received the Avantone Planar thursday, so it's time for some first impressions: - COMFORT: it is quite comfortable, but heavy. The pads are well proportioned and my ears fit inside with a lot of room to work with. There is a bump in the headstrap, but I simply don't feel it (my hair does...

    Avantone : Pro Planar

I don't know if this was posted here, but someone on the Headphones forum has posted a short review with measurements here: https://forum.headphones.com/t/whats-in-the-box/1765/2604

    Smack;Bottlehead WOT

It does very well with both low and high impedance headphones, the trouble is with low-sensitivity headphones like the orthodynamic headphones (Audez'e and HifiMan). It does manages to do a quite respectable job with them, but the Smack just can't control them as well as one of the high-powered...

No, I don't have a single balanced cable.

    Crack;Bottlehead OTL

The Crack is very sensitive to the tube used in it. If you have access to other tubes, try rolling them: you might find some with very low noise floor.

I sent an e-mail to Grado about the HF-2 and the PS-500, and I have just received this reply:     Quote:

Who else has known bad luck with their headphones?

I've been looking back to all the my headphones that have been damaged, or had to be repaired/replaced under warranty, and I was wondering if I just had some bad luck with headphones, or if others has the same troubles.   Let me start with my headphone breaks and replacements history:  ...

    Smack;Bottlehead WOT

My bad: I was jumping words and read "I am considering a MAD Ear+".   I would keep it a while longer: you will be able to read some impressions and reviews, and your current amplifier will be worth more due to the rising prices.

    Amp recommendations for Audeze LCD-2

Just adding my five cents: the Cavalli Audio EHHA is very good with the LCD-2. My other main amplifier, the Hagerman Castanet, is not: it lacks the power to give a detailed sound.

    A Very Compact Hybrid Amp

Well, the crazy thing is that it still works. It's just a theory, but I think it was because I plugged the E-mu's input to the CTH's output (I was going to test it as I had done on my other amps). The very high input impedance may be drawing too much, or something like that (I don't have much of...

    A Very Compact Hybrid Amp

Nevermind, I found the cause: I had linked the input jack's ground to the output jack's ground. Linking the input jack's ground to the volume pot grounds instead resolved it, and the e12 no longer trips when changing volume.   I was also blowing up some fuses when inserting the power...
