Now up on the US site too. List of codecs in the specs is SBC, AAC and apt-X Adaptive(Snapdragon): https://www.lg.com/us/headphones/lg-tone-t90q-white

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

After a rather underwhelming experience with the Oppo Enco X2 (see quote above), I decided to try another DD/planar hybrid driver TWS, the Huawei FreeBuds Pro 2. The latter look extremely similar to the Oppos, but they're actually better suited for large ears and I was able to get a reliable...

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

Lots of things to like about this Bluetooth upgrade: BLE audio streaming, higher efficiency, lower power consumption, better battery life, potentially smaller earbuds. However, the claim of "MUCH higher audio quality at the same bit rate" seems rather doubtful imo. Did anyone who listened to...

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

I agree with you that implementation plays a role, too. But note that this applies to the other codecs as well, not just to SBC. However, I disagree with you that better treble extension of SBC vs. AAC comes at the cost of tizzy sound. Tizzy sound is the result of too much high treble energy...

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

As an Android user (LG V30), I don't mind TWS that have only SBC. First of all, SBC at highest bitrate is almost as good as AAC and aptX, very small difference in fact: http://soundexpert.org/encoders-320-kbps And on Android, SBC actually offers more treble extension and 'air' than AAC, the...

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

Unless you have very small ears or stuff them deliberately in too far, earbud-style TWS don't produce occlusion effects either. They're simply non-sealing, open miniature ear-speakers, just like the LinkBuds.

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

I haven't tried the Linkbuds myself, but tbo I don't see any acoustic advantage of these compared to side-firing earbud TWS like the Airpods 3. Seems to me like Sony created an over-engineered solution to a problem that doesn't really exist, since I can get both huge open soundstage and low...

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

I use my PMV PP planar IEMs with the TRN BT20S BT-earhooks and get decent amplification and sound quality. The BT20S uses QCC3020 audio SoC, which you can find in many older TWS, like FIIL T1X or MIfo O7. So I'd think a planar TWS may well be able to sound decent. But spending $368 just to find...

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

I can recommend the Fiil T1 Lite. Small case, low profile earpieces, very decent sound and low price. This review is pretty much spot-on: https://www.scarbir.com/tws/fiil-t1-lite-review

Sony EX1000 Review and Impressions Thread (with comparisons to FX700, GR10 and e-Q5)

Personal preference. The Z1R tuning is closer to Harman target, which obviously many people prefer. I for my part am not a fan of it, as it makes everything sound warmer than in real life imo. But each to their own. Anyway, IEMs tuned like the EX1000 are becoming rather rare nowadays. The Dunu...

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

No problem, I wasn't trying to argue semantics. Just wanted to point out that Melomanias are the ear canal sealing type, whereas the Oppos are open. Which is kind of relevant for in-bed listening, since regular sleeping with sealed ear canals might promote ear infection.

Going fully Wireless IEMs. Too soon? Or are we there yet?

I agree that the JVC FW1000T can potentially sound very good, but the stock tuning without ANC is a bit too warm and borderline muddy in my book. These are measurements with ANC (red) and without (blue), diffuse-field compensated, so DF-neutral would be a horizontal line: It's easy to see...

Drop + JVC HA-FDX1 Dual Carbon IEM...available in the US!

I've heard the U12T and it's much warmer than the FDX1. Maybe interesting to those who like the relaxed IER-M9 sound, but probably not that much to FDX1 fans.

Final Audio Design Impressions and Discussion Thread

By means of gravity and friction, just like the original wired ones: http://final-audio-design.com/es/pianoforte-viii/ The Fostex earhooks are very light and don't exert much pull on the earphones. Needless to say though, this combo is just suited for stationary listening or light walking and...

Final Audio Design Impressions and Discussion Thread

I'd try to contact Vesper Audio. I have a pair of Piano Fortes modded by them with 2-pin sockets, so they must know how to open it. https://vesperaudio.com/contact Speaking of which, this is probably a very rare combo: 2-pin modded Piano Fortes + Fostex TM2 true wireless earhooks.

Drop + JVC HA-FDX1 Dual Carbon IEM...available in the US!

I'm used to the FDX1 with reference (intermediate) filters and found the Z1R much warmer sounding when I demoed it. It kinda surprised me, since the difference didn't look that significant in the FR-graph. I've been using it with the TRN BT20S and it is a very tight fit. Don't know if the...

JVC HA-FX700 review : WOODEN KING of Dynamic iems

Just my 2c, but I'd take a pass and keep the Blon03. The 03 is a nicely tuned and technically decent IEM. The FX700 has better looks, but is much more v-shaped and no upgrade in technical terms.

    Earbuds Round-Up

Here are DF-compensated measurements of Rose Maria II, with different levels of seal on my miniDSP Ears coupler. Take them with a grain of salt, because the coupler's artificial ear is only a crude replica of a human ear. I pretty much agree with @ClieOS on sound signature and stage. It's...

JVC HA-FW01 - The New Top End Wood Driver IEM (2017)

I'm afraid you're asking the wrong person in that regard. I prefer a more neutral bass and have modded each and every JVC woodie to attenuate the low range.
