    [Interest Check] Toronto Head-Fi Meet

How is everyone doing? Just because these can take a while to setup I figured I'd start an IC thread and maybe we can have one once COVID settles down! What are everyone's thoughts? Too soon? Have one anyway and make everyone sign waivers? I'm personally kind of leery of being an organizer...

    Sony CD3000 Thread

There used to be a Yahoo site in Japanese that went thru disassembly and repair, but sadly that's gone along with Yahoo. Taking it apart isn't that hard though - just take pictures of everything as you go. I have attached some pictures of what my lambskin repair looks like afterwards. The...

Toronto GTA Meet January 2017 with Cayin!

As long as work doesn't get in the way I'm definitely up for this.   I should be finished building an F5-HA soon, and hopefully my pair of TH-X00s will arrive in good condition.

    Apheared 47 bypass cap

Wow, this one brings back memories... I remember making one without the GND buffer a long time back, and it sounded good.  I basically used just the TLE2426, with 100uF bypasses. I personally haven't had much luck with the sound of GND buffers, and prefer a solid stack of capacitors instead...

EHHA Rev A - Interest Thread

FallenAngel,   Congrats on building up the EHHA. Overall your build looks ok, but please let me know the following:   1. Input impedance of your pot.  I think I had a 100K Black Beauty in mine, but I seem to remember swapping it out with a 10K TDK conductive plastic unit after being...

    GTA meet 1/30/16

Hey, I'd rather Sony came out with a high-end 12MP APS-C mirror-less solution for us low-light shooters. Whether I end up going for the A6300 depends a lot on how much they improved performance in low light. The A6000 was very disappointing in this regard.

    GTA meet 1/30/16

I think most of us head-fiers are gear geeks to a greater or lesser extent. This easily manifests itself in over-priced headphones and just as easily in camera gear.  At other meets it's been knives and MTBs.   Equipment tags are a great idea and something I tried to do, but it's a lot of...

    GTA meet 1/30/16

ChrisKTO's Liquid Carbon setup.  One smooth sounding system.   Robin's audio-gd setup.  The DAC is apparently causing the system to sound more closed-in than neutral, but this was another detailed full-bodied system.   FallenAngel's Buffallo 3, Torpedo, Bijou, Balanced Dynalo system...

Kicking off 2016 with a Toronto / GTA meet on Saturday January 30th

I will likely also drop by, but won't bring a system since it looks like there will be enough to listen to already. If I do make it, I can definitely take pictures of the event.

Toronto / GTA Fall meet. November 15

I hate to add to the list of cancellations, but I recently switched jobs and am now leading a project that is months behind schedule. I've been working constant weekends to try to get ahead, and was hoping to at least take the Sunday off, but due to production issues I now have to work...

Toronto / GTA Fall meet. November 15

Unfortunately I can only give a VERY tentative yes for attending this meet due to work related demands. If I do go, I have nothing new to bring so it'll just be the HD650s and Sony MDR-CD3000s again.   My camera gear will definitely be in attendance however.   Shout-out to Vince: Bring...

ATTN: Waterloo, Kitchener, Guelph Head-fiers (and any other nearby locations) - meet in Fergus

Chris,   You would be right on all counts regarding the circuit topology. The schematic below is what I built.  Exceptions are that the power supply caps are all 18,000 uF, and the rails are +/-18V. It's a pretty massive power supply considering I originally bought the parts to build an...

ATTN: Waterloo, Kitchener, Guelph Head-fiers (and any other nearby locations) - meet in Fergus

Chris,   Is it a DIY something weird?   I gave this MOSFET buffer (+/-18V rails) a go this past week, but it's a smidge too smooth without enough bass impact. Might try power JFETs next.  This setup definitely makes a nice little space heater for the winter with the heatsink getting too...

ATTN: Waterloo, Kitchener, Guelph Head-fiers (and any other nearby locations) - meet in Fergus

A meet in Fergus!  I work in Elora, so I should make every effort to try to attend. I'll be on midnight shift during this time, but if my work schedule allows, I'll definitely be going. Really want to see what type of system you have going with the CD3000s, since I still haven't found anything...

Thanks Chris, but the pictures would have been better if they hadn't been shot on a Canon right?

    Spring Toronto Meet 2014

Figured I'd start a new thread for meet impressions if only mostly to post pictures.   First, a big thank you to Julian for organizing the meet. The Head Fi name tags were a nice touch. The size of the party room was probably perfect for the number of people who showed up, and having a...

    Toronto Winter Meet

NightFlight,   Forgot to reply to your previous post.  There's no way you're leaving your Crack at home!  It's questionable how much mine needs to be there, but at least we can compare a stock Crack with the upgraded one. See you there, and thanks for offering to bring extra tubes.

    Toronto Winter Meet

NightFlight,   I only have the stock RCA 6080WA and a gold pin Electroharmonix 12AU7.  I keep looking for a decently priced 7236 on ebay, but demand is so high... *sigh* From what I can tell you have a much better set of tubes along with mods.  Maybe I'll keep my amp at home? What mods have...

Quote: The diesel definitely has low end torque that the gasoline version doesn't, but there's no getting around the fact that it's got the engine of a compact car in a body that weighs just as much as a mid-size sedan.  Even my Dad's old 4 cylinder Camry has better get up and go.   To...
