    FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out

After wading through pages and pages of comments, I think I shall stick with 1.07JP. I can live with it’s numerous moody issues and idiosyncrasies.

    FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out

Yes, my FiiO music does whatever it wants whenever it wants, not what I want it to do! Seriously, I do get the odd random song jump, i.e skips over songs in albums sometimes.

    FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out

I picked up a FiiO X7 II to replace my FiiO X5 1st Gen a few weeks ago. First observation was it sounds much more open and less muffled than the X5 i. But I gotta say, after using the X7 ii for a few weeks, I find the operating system is rather buggy! I have faith; it took a few updates to get...

    FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out

Wow, after reading all this stuff, I’m glad I waited for the X7 mk II. Too bad my FiiO X5 1st Gen is worth almost nothing!

    FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out

Thanks, George. Mostly I am looking for an audio upgrade from my FiiO X5 1st Gen, but a good touchscreen is also very nice.

    FiiO X7 Mk II 2GB RAM + 64GB ROM + ESS9028 PRO + Balanced + DSD + BT 4.1 aptX + Dual mSD + Dual Band WiFi + Opt Out

Ouch, that’s gotta hurt! Unless the firmware is changing the DAC algorithms, I can’t see an operating system upgrade changing the sound of the X7ii! Anyone from FiiO care to comment?

    Amping for AKG Q701

TBH, I've rolled in various NOS tubes, but I found a pair I like so I stick with those.

    Amping for AKG Q701

The 336 sounds good with the stock Chinese tubes, but it sounds even better with a nice set of NOS tubes. If you like it with the stock tubes, you'll love it with NOS tubes. I think the output impedance of the 336 is too high for the Q701 'phones.

    Amping for AKG Q701

Hi, I have a Figaro 336C (basically the same amp). It does not work too well with my Q701. It's been year sisnce I tried that combo out, but I found the bass was rather muddy, and, very broadly speaking, just a rather unsattisfying experience. Generally, I find my 336C sounds bets with high...

Audio Technica ATH- ES 10 Impressions Thread

I used to own a pair of fake ATH-ESW10, very difficult to tell they were fakes by examining them, but the sound was very uninvolving, I hardly ever listened to them. I later got a pair of real ESW9, I use them all the time with my iPad.

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

Yes, batteries are a reasonable clean alternative, but, as you point out, a tube amp may be a problem, unless you have a 400 V battery bank for your tube amp! If you did use batteries then there are more endless arguments, i.e. which battery technology is quieter and which battery technology...

    The Fiio X5 Thread

That's an interesting observation: will you hear a difference if you listen via the E11K? I wonder, as I used to own an E09K, it was merely a good amp, not a great amp. To the guy who posed the question, does an X5iii sound substantially better than an X5iii? I suppose you'll get a better...

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

Yes, I'll need a few thousand pounds of silver ground wire, if you don't mind. If you have any gold ground wire (for reference of course) that would also be appreciated, a ton or two should cover it. On a more serious note, I do admit to hearing the difference between a low buck FiiO DAC I used...

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

I agree. I'm an Electrical Engineer. Send me 1,500 feet of pure silver wire so I can study the phenomena, run some experiments, take some measurements.

Is there *really* an audible difference between different DACs?

After over 6,000 posts (not that 6,000 posts makes me qualified! :-). I have gotten to the point where the main thing is: I have some great sounding gear, it certainy isn't mega buck stuff, and I certainly think it sounds great, but for me, ultimately, it has become all about the music. Do I...

Odd claim on an aftermarket power cable?

Folks, DO NOT use in wall type AC cable for power cable, it does not meet UL requirements. In wall cable is stiff single strand cable and is not designed to be bent over and over and over again. It can be a fire hazard as the cable can crack and create hot spots. Your insurance company will...

Does your DAP have an analog line out? If so, plug it into the pre-amp line input.
