Reply to review by 'inthere' on item 'AudioQuest - Nighthawk Headphones'

Hit the nail on the head about the "artificially enhanced mids and highs" for the sake of clarity that most high end headphones have. I've been saying this for years.    As a music professional the Nighthawks are the closest thing to an accurate headphone you'll ever see. Boosted highs and...

Review by 'inthere' on item 'Sound Blaster E5 - 24-bit/192kHz High-Resolution USB DAC & Portable Headphone Amplifier'

Didn't see any reviews on this yet so I guess I'm 1st.   I compared this with JDS Labs C5, Fiio E12, E6, Objective 2, Magni 2 Uber, and Schiit Fulla.    Nothing brings to mind the phrase "polishing a turd" like the sound of the unit in my opinion. There are loads of sonic tweaks in the...

    Marshall 04090800 Monitor Over-The-Ear Headphones - Black

Marshall's Monitor Headphones embody the power and strength that is Marshall in a headphone with hi-fi prowess and epic sound. The first-ever over-ear model from Marshall Headphones, the Monitor's slender over-ear construction delivers superior noise isolation without the bulk, staying light on...

You may be right about better bass reproduction but in my experience the Hifiman's are not very practical in a studio setup because of the cost and the fact that without research you could easily wind up with a dud for a headphone amp. For the cost of the headphones+the amp you could do much...

This is by far the most accurate review of the M50's I have seen. People looking for a magical listening experience won't find it with these cans. These are for pro studio use and really the only set of cans you want to use if you're forced to mix in headphones, because it has the most accurate...

An "audiophile" is a person that is enthusiastic about high fidelity sound, so you are an audiophile. What made the M50's so popular was their ability to accurately represent bass in mixing-this has always been the weakness of headphones in professional mixing and why the preferred method of...

Reply to review by 'inthere' on item 'Beats Mixr On-Ear Headphones'

I thought I made that clear......however, all headphones are specialized for one area; for instance, most high end headphones are useless for DJ'ing, unamped on an iPod, and pro studio work. Great pro studio headphones are too neutral to sound good on anything. Loud cans like Beats are worthless...

I use ATH M50's regularly in pro studio work and they're extremely accurate. And the bass is not hyped but universally famous in pro engineering and production circles for being the most honest bass representation available in headphones, which is how they got their rep. George Massenburg, one...

Great review and it's about time the bandwagoners stopped glorifying the ATH m50's-they're the best headphones in the world for accurate neutral professional studio work, but if you want pure listening enjoyment they suck because there's no magic. And I've always felt the Shures were too harsh...

Very nice detailed review and thanks for the effort. I have 6 pairs of TMA-1's. (I've been a traveling professional DJ for 25+ years and I ask that the club supply the headphones. I've been given TMA-1's more than any other headphone) I also have the ATH M50's AND an Apogee Duet (LOVE my Duet...

@Amber: absolutely no offence taken and if you can name a few pairs that are better for DJ'ing than Mixr's I'll be happy to try them out, if I haven't already. @ender323: there are different kinds of "sound work." I agree that neutral and flat works best for pro studio work, and I use ATH M50's...

Can't DJ with the Studios, too heavy, clumsy, not a very snug fit and they'll break within a month if you're traveling.

I'm a pro DJ that plays in a different country every week and they're my go-to set of cans, read the review about my reasons why.

Or maybe the headphones you got never needed burn in Spinnin. I burn in a lot of headphones if they're not sounding great right away, some get better and some don't. The Marshalls were definitely the most radical change and longest burn in period for me. I remember certain Sennheisers (595's...

Review by 'inthere' on item 'Beats Mixr On-Ear Headphones'

I have 4 pair of these, all given to me as a result of my job, which is professional DJ. The 1st pair I got had the 1/4 adapter connected(see photo) to the cable permanently so you would never lose it, which I thought was a very nice touch for traveling DJ's because I lose them all the time, but...

I'd never burned in a pair for more than 48 hours. I've *heard* of burn in periods of 1000 hours but this was the closest I've experienced to that. Also, the 1st pair I got sounded great immediately with NO burn in so go figure.

They look very similar.......the only difference seems to be the Urbanears version has round earpads and the Marshalls are square. I haven't heard the Urbanears version yet so I can't confirm

Review by 'inthere' on item 'Marshall Headphones - 'Major' Over Ear (Black)'

I'm a professional DJ/Producer. In my rider I ask that the venue supply the headphones. So I have at least 100 pairs of headphones, and that's after giving away the majority of them to friends. Not going to bother to run off every pair but I've tried just about every pair out.    Just before...
