Headphones vs Speakers -- an Inconvenient Truth

To each his own I just do not see much if any real improvements. Different yes, better no. Considering I received my speakers and TT in time capsule condition at what they retailed for many years ago I feel like I got a heck of deal with no inflation factored in. Headphones I can not do that...

Headphones vs Speakers -- an Inconvenient Truth

I think an air bearing would be the way to go if you had the cash. Made many years ago. But of course now we have a levitating platter in the MagLev. Horrible idea and not progress in the slightest. I thought this was about speakers and headphones.

Headphones vs Speakers -- an Inconvenient Truth

Yeah there are a few audio items where I think there are good modern day offerings with real cutting edge creativity going on. Other items I think had their pinnacle back in the heyday when music was the main form of entertainment. Speakers, headphones and TT's especially fall into the latter...

Headphones vs Speakers -- an Inconvenient Truth

Well my APM 4's with shipping included was $4k and I think you could get something very nice for $2k shipped with enough patience. Yamaha NS1000's are all over the place at that price but I would look past those if you have the time from companies like Onkyo, Sony, JBL, Sansui, Diatone and...

Headphones vs Speakers -- an Inconvenient Truth

I would save up your schillings and get a pair of vintage japan speakers and small power amp. No problems at all in the bass dept. with my APM 4's and fire bottle SE.   The biggest hurdle is finding a domestic deal on the speakers imo. Shipping kills most international deals.

It takes some digging but I think that might be one area where headphones have an advantage.

    HIFIMAN on Wood

Hifiman has let their customers solve all of their other issues like ear pads, headband, too heavy, poor build quality etc. I'm sure someone out their in head-fi has the ability to produce solid wood cups. I remember member making wood cups for the he-500 back in the he-500 heyday. It def...

I felt my $10 Rapala crankbait used better wood than my he-1000 but to each his own.

    Focal Utopia General Discussion

I have not heard of people lifting speakers in and out. Speakers are not what I would call easy to position so that would be difficult and in my experience not too much fun, especially when they are several hundred pounds. I have seen lots of speaker fans setup 2, 3, even 4 different pairs of...

    The Stax Thread III

If you are looking to connect multiple sources, especially rca with TT, you will need something like a goldpoint passive pre to go with your Mjolnir amp. Mjolnir only does one xlr in and one xlr out.   I also highly suggest buying mjolnir used.

    MYSPHERE 3.1-UNIQUE in SOUND&DESIGN&BUILD QUALITY

I messed up on the year but it was not a pair he found in his closet. What it proves is that there are varying degrees of what the k-1000 is worth with inflation factored in and what Heinz said about them costing $5k usd to make today is something he should not have said. I doubt akg sold...

Chicago area Headphone Meet - January 28th 2017 "ChiUniFi"

Yeah I'm holding on to hd800's and that's it. I'd give a sweet deal on the Ravenswood/dsha4. Decided to go in a different direction with some vintage japan speakers.

3 months would be a whole lot nicer. My work likes 6 weeks notice and we work as many Saturdays and Sundays as were off so I have to ask off those days to be on the safe side.   I look at the meet forum once a week tops, sometimes just once a month because they are usually planned out 2-3...

I enjoyed the mk1 much more than a sz3 model I had. I would use hifishark to find the best deal on a 007mk1-2.

Headphones vs Speakers -- an Inconvenient Truth

I have not dealt with hifido.jp yet. I have always been able to find better deals on yahoo japan and the same impeccable shipping, packaging and product condition. I passed on this deal though cause the shipping was so high and am waiting for hifido and audiounion to respond to me about their...

Headphones vs Speakers -- an Inconvenient Truth

I have sort of come full circle when it comes to headphones and speakers. I was able to audition several $10-30k speaker setups at a friend of mines audio store and trying out $1-300 headphones when Amazon would let you try them for nothing. I could never really find any nitpicks with the...

Selecting your first turntable setup - Get the biggest bang for your buck - Keep it under $2000

Vintage Japan tables, even cheap ones, usually are badass. I would hold on to the Sony and look for a stereo technician and see if he/she would give the Sony TT a once over for $50ish.

    The Stax Thread III

The 009 is very polarizing and as much of a pain to pair up source wise as the hd800 and 007mk1 amp wise. The 007 is more forgiving but kind of a hot mess when I think of all the issues. Like the hd800 it is amp picky and I was not impressed with an SZ3 model with both the GES and 727ii. I...
