  1. Noble Audio Savant

    5.00 star(s)
First and foremost, a big thank you to those at Noble Audio who has sent me a unit to review. The Noble Audio customer service experience has been a joy to behold. Brannan is always on hand to deal with your queries, as well as Dr Moulton.   I would not call myself and audiophile. Instead, a music lover, performer and engineer.   As a Classical musician, my genre of choice revolves heavily around Classical and Jazz. Once in a while, when I don’t feel the urge to immerse myself in Bach’s complex counterpoint, I choose to listen to rock and some...
  2. Heir Audio Tzar 350

    5.00 star(s)
The first time I tried the Tzar 350 was at the London meet in April. My initial impression of these IEMs can be found in the link just below.    http://www.head-fi.org/t/584763/heir-audio-the-appreciation-thread/6735    As you peruse the link above, you will find that the Wizard himself acknowledged that I had “nailed this product in both sonic descriptions and in the description of the mission/product goal of the Tzar 350”.    In spite of my first encounter with the Tzar 350 being fleeting to say the least, I was sufficiently impressed...
  3. Stax SR-009 Electrostatic Headphones

    4.50 star(s)
As the subjective sound quality of the SR-009 has been extensively discussed in the other reviews, I will focus on my objective experiences. Whenever I purchase new high-end products, I always choose to run a blind test consisting of the model in question alongside other high-end headphones. This time, the comparison counterparts included the LCD-3, HD800, HD650 and Orpheus.    My subjective impressions always tend to take a similar route: there exists a very strong correlation between the price tag and the sound quality that I perceive. It was...
  4. Sennheiser Orpheus HE-90

    4.50 star(s)
The Orpheus sounds fantastic. It is full of detail and clarity with a very flat frequency response. It also caresses the music, in that the music's presentation is very warm. The soundstage is excellent and instrumental timbre is very well replicated. These are my subjective listening experiences. However, I believe the money would be better spent on speakers. I own a pair of Focal speakers that outperform the Orpheus at two thirds of the price.    In a blind test which I performed on ten fellow classical musicians, which included the HD800...
  5. Heir Audio 8.A

    5.00 star(s)
As the other reviews have covered most of the 8A's sound signature related qualities, I want to focus on its outstanding merits which I believe to be unique only to the 8A.   The sound signature is supremely rich and musical yet Heir have managed to allow the 8A to portray incredibly high levels of detail. I would assume this is somewhat paradoxical, and would be seemingly impossible to achieve. Yet, the magicians at Heir have managed more than accomplish this 'seemingly impossible feat'.     In addition, a rich and musical sound signature is...
  6. Heir Audio 4.Ai

    5.00 star(s)
I listen to a lot of classical music and so for me an accurate representation across the spectrum is a must and the 4ai delivers this excellently. More often than not, midcentric or treble based IEMs tend to have the wow factor at first. So the 4ai for me wasn't impressive at first but once I got used to the sound signature, it has become my favourite IEM especially for listening to large orchestral works. Soundstage is excellent and each and every instrument is represented beautifully. Comfort for me is good but not as good as my SE535. The 4ai...
