ZMF Aegis Official Thread
Just to wet the appetite a little. The Aegis + ZMF AC with GEC KT88 - Elrog 274b -RCA Red Base 5691 is something very special. I normally rotate between the AC & Elites every week or so but this setup has been a prolonged rotation.... deadmau5 "while (1<2)" this morning sounds incredible!! Love...- Toonartist

The Atrium Closed are receiving a longer rotation ... tried a few different power tubes with the Elrog 274b & RCA Red Base 5691 but for the AC, the GEC KT88 win every time! I like these tubes for some genres with the Meze Elites but with the higher impedance setting on the Aegis and the AC...- Toonartist

They’re on the list. I was going to buy a backup pair of the EL39s next but maybe these first!! I’d be using them in the Aegis.- Toonartist

I haven’t listened to the KT66 but they get good reviews. They look like June 1964 if that’s VF provided they follow the same pattern as their KT88s- Toonartist

You know, this is what's so great about the Aegis... we can all build an amp that perfectly matches what we want it to look like. For me, it's a testimony how good the Aegis is. I just want to build a chassis that leaves me thinking... job done, forever amp has landed :L3000:- Toonartist

MediaLux KT88 review? If so, yes, it was a really good in-depth review of the KT88 tube type. I would love to find that shop in Japan :L3000:- Toonartist

I haven't made that comparison but.... Review and comparison of the KT88 Edit. I found the GEC KT88, as @AnyDave mentioned, has a big big stage with a beautiful airy treble that's smooth as you like. It has an almost spherical 3d feel to the imaging.- Toonartist

If anyone is curious about GEC KT88 date codes. My older pair are SF which = June 1961 and newer ones follow the 8133 I believe 33 is the week number but not 100% sure. I know we don't have 33 months though 😀 Taken from another forum "GEC KT88 Dating. Older tubes, first letter = year and...- Toonartist

From what I read online, the EL38 is derived from EL37 but with a reinforced cathode and screen and was intended for use in TV sets.- Toonartist

Just received my last GEC KT88 backup. Excellent condition, pretty much the same as the other spare but that didn’t have the GEC paper label. My first NOS pair were dated 1980/81 both with black plates but slightly smaller bottle neck on them compared to the 1960/70's backup pair I have. You can...- Toonartist

Very nice, look forward to hearing how they sound! Quite a while back I picked up a pair of NOS RCA 6V6GT Grey Glass. Nice enough..."pleasant sounding" sounds about right. Probably been too spoiled with other offerings :o2smile:- Toonartist
