The O2/ODAC is popular and very capable but it still has a very much DYI look with exposed screws and ergonomics playing a second fiddle to cost. 

I went with the Sennheiser pigtail with my LCD-2s :).

AKG K550 is a decent pair of headphones. The Denon Dx000's are not the best if you actually need a closed headphone rather than a "closed" headphone.

The HE-400 has a delightful sound for the cost. I had one for a while paired with the O2 amp and thought they sounded very good in all regards.

I think the LCD-2's are the clearly superior headphone; I wouldn't say there is a metric by which you can say that the HE-400 is better than the LCD-2. I had a chance to listen to the HE-400 again recently after having owned the LCD-2 for a few months and don't regret having spend 2.5x the money...

Great headphones. I have been using mine for a few months now and am impressed every time I use them.

Is anyone else not a fan of the stock cable. The new style flat cable just feels cheap to me for some reason. I'm not a believer in cables (quite the opposite actually), but I kind of want to buy a new one just because I am OCD.

Announcement:   I think we have missed the forest for the trees. USB cables are the problem, the USB controller is the problem, I have heard the the Intel PCH controller is much better than any of the ASMedia chips, you should check your controller and make sure you have your $300 USB cable...
