Just received the D2000's - Initial Impressions and Screw question!

I don't know how an amp will change anything, but back when I had XB700s, which are bass-heavy, using them in combination with an older ipod nano (which has a good DAC) made the sound signature A LOT better and the mids much more apparent.   I have the D2000s, and the mids don't really get...

    Sony MDR XB700

Doesn't really need a Headphone amp but I figure most would recommend a fiio e7/e9/e10 to go with that.

    Denon D7100?!

I think this is a crappy effort by Denon to look as flashy as Beats or something like that. Audiophiles don't fall for that, they want professional, luxurious-looking headphones.

    Basshead Headphones

I disagree with his assessment, personally. I used to like both headphones but as my headphone taste matured I realized that both are incredibly colored and I don't think I would recommend them, even to a basshead.

Help me decide on a new set of cans (under 250)

D2000 looks like the headphone for you

    Rap Headphones

It wouldn't be a bad choice. I'm personally not one to be using multiple headphones for different genres, I like to stick to one headphone for all my listening needs.

I just ordered Denon AH-D2000 and Fiio E10

You really like the D2000s better than the LCD-2? I was planning on upgrading to the LCD-2 eventually from my D2Ks.    Anyways, let them burn in before you decide to ship it back or keep it, because you may be dissappointed with them at first, partly because of the bright highs.

    Denon D2000 Bass is unimpressive

The D2000 does not have a significant bass punch. Like others have said, it is about "sub bass", which is the rumble you hear on basslines.    The best way to explain Sony vs Denon is like this. When I was listening to classical music w/ no drums or any bass instruments I could STILL hear...

    Rap Headphones

You're looking for more bass quantity? Then the D2000 is the wrong headphone to get.   "destroy them in the bass department" is ambiguous...

Haha, is everyone on this web site a teenager  ?

    Rap Headphones

Quote:   This corroborates my view. The XB700 has a lot of improvements in clarity/detail that make it a much better headphone.   HOWEVER - I'm not sure I can recommend the XB700 for rap music. It does everything EXCEPT rap music better than the XB500. The XB500 is a good cheap...

    Denon D2000/D5000, MD2000/MD5000 Thread!

How can you tell if you have the 2012 model? I just ordered a pair of D2000s recently.

    Denon D2000 Bass is unimpressive

Quote: This is what I mean. I had the Sony Xtra Bass headphones once, and I thought they were great, but only after I upgraded to less bassy headphones did I finally realize the error of my ways.    It's about accurate bass reproduction, and even the D2000 is somewhat colored.

Denon D2000/D5000 - amount of sound leakage?

Oh yes. That's probably it. When you take them off, it leaks quite a beat. But when your head is dampening the sound, it may not be all that loud.

    Denon D2000/D5000, MD2000/MD5000 Thread!

When you get D2000s, they will sound worse before they sound better (in terms of burn-in). Make sure you burn it in thoroughly so you can evaluate the headphone on its true sound signature.    But they are great. I'm probably going to keep mine for several years, I can't see myself upgrading...
