Comparing Hifiman Sundara to Hifiman Sundara closed back to EMU-Teak

Hi there Head-fi'ers, I just ordered the Hifiman Sundara closed back. I own the other two cans mentioned in the title. The offering price of 169 euro was too good to pass. I read that the Sundara's closed back have some wobbly midrange with some surpressed highs. I wonder how they will compare...

Your Glossy cups look phenomenal as well, really bring out the color. And cheers to the skyaudiocables as well! <3 for the Purple<3

    E-MU Wooden Series Headphones

I put the Purpleheart wooden cups back on the E-MU's. On my LG V40 with the Quad Dac on and digital filter set to short, these cups are more musical than I remember them. After hundreds of hours of listening to the Teak and Zebra cups I decided I wanted the exciting yet balanced sound of the...

Next to that I was wondering if anyone has Fostex Ebony cups laying around, I would love to take them over.

    E-MU Wooden Series Headphones

I would urge anyone into these EMU Wooden headphones to try out the Zebra wooden variant. It softens the highs of the Teak wood, focuses more on the mids, and has a more neutral character overall. The only real downside to the Zebra in comparison to the Teak is that the bass loosens a bit...

HiFiman HE-500 (HE as in High End) Proving to be an enjoyable experience in listening.

I don't remember saying they are better by any means, just more portable and not sacrificing much of layering or timbre. I must've gotten lucky with the comfort I suppose.

For a 500 euro headphone I'd find this unacceptable. Would email chan if I were you, see if you can get a new set of drivers mailed to you. My Teak's are mostly balanced except around the 9khz area when running a frequency test, but never faced real world issues since 2020.

Been running skyaudiocables on the Teaks for the last 2 years. Excellent cables, he also offers balanced cables.

Output power of the SP200 at high gain is 3 watt per channel at 32ohm, which I feel is sufficient for the HE500, right? And I would definitely agree with the statement that the smaller bass presence of the Sundara give it a lean/bright impression when A-B'ing it with my stock HE500, though this...

I have the latest version of the Sundara so I don't know if that changes anything, but I perceive the highs to be quite subdued and laid back, though not lacking in detail, air or speed. Owning brighter headphones, this one doesnt strike me as bright at all. And the sub bass is fast, and nicely...

Hilarious witty writing, I managed to pick up a mint condition Sundara for 180 euro's. Probably best value for money headphone I ever bought.

What did Summit-fi provide you objectively better when comparing mid-fi or the Sundara f.e.?

Edit (misinterpreted the topic): I think the Sundara are comfortably replacing the HD600, though the Beyer DT880 is still mentioned being better than DT900 Pro or the other Beyer's (Timeless classic?). The Sennheiser HD 560s seem to be mentioned instead of the HD650 these days, though I have...

Your posts always motivate me to get another HE-500 and mod that unit just like you. I am running a stock HE-500 and am not too bothered by the occasional midrange ringing or vibration issues you mention, though I am very much open to modding a second unit. I feel the Sundara fixes many timbre...
