Headphones for Asus Xonar Essence STX
Depends on your player. Setting it to WASAPI or ASIO is done independent of the windows mixer - effectively by-passing it - in order to decrease input delay when making music or other professional applications. If you haven't specifically selected it in your music player of choice, you probably...- sulvaat

Headphones for Asus Xonar Essence STX
I don't know what causes the problem but it has happened to me before. Something hangs when switching between the windows mixer and running in modes like WASAPI or ASIO. It happened only once before and I fixed it by just restarting. Note that the animations in the settings panel only work when...- sulvaat

Using Two DACs?
Depending on the DAC, it will have higher SNR when used in mono than stereo. Having one for each channal makes sence in this type of installation because it gives the device an overall lower noise floor. Anything other than that reason alone is marketing foolery. This is taken from the...- sulvaat

7 drum hits -> What do you hear?
Quote: My first thought was due to driver type or housing design but since these all tie into how the sound spectrum is presented to the ear, it goes hand in hand with what you are saying.- sulvaat

ATH SJ55 or Marshall Major - Looking for isolation and portability
I recently listened to the SJ55 in a noisy dept store and can tell you that it does not isolate as much as I had hoped. Having also listened to the majors as well, but not at the same store, I can say it isolates much better. The SJ55 however, out-preform the majors in every other aspect.- sulvaat

Ultrasone HFI-780 VS Beyerdynamic DT 770 (DT 880 VS DT 990)
I have the HFI-580 and HD-25 IIs. Used to own the 780s and m50s as well but have sold them. I actually prefer the HD-25's for bass heavy music over the 580s. Like the 780, the 580, to me, has bright treble that prevents you from "rocking out" at higher volumes, should you get to that awesome...- sulvaat

Orthodynamic Roundup
I would like to report my work on a tribute to an old headphone. I have never heard nor seen the ATH-2 until I came upon the wikiphonia site. Wonderful piece of work that site is, much thanks. Recently, Audio-Technica came out with a ATH-RE70 which is a tribute to the ATH-2 but with dynamic...- sulvaat

Help! Best closed headphones for air travel?
The HD-25-1 II's isolate very well and are rugged enough for throwing in carry-ons. Down side is that they don't fold however I have jammed mine in my carry-ons for years no and they look and feel brand new.- sulvaat

Orthodynamic Roundup
Thanks for the replies guys. The receiver is a Sherwood RX-4103, it was a hand me down from my dad. I ran the multimeter on its HP out and got about 190~200mW output. The D12 is about 120mW and the ST I think is like 80mW if I recall correctly. I ran continuity test for the cable...- sulvaat

Orthodynamic Roundup
Question for you guys; I made what I consider to be a pretty decent DIY SFI ortho (120ohm) cans from those ATH-RE70's I linked a page or so back. They sound as good or better than most of my cans and am really satisfied however, they distort at just below my "rocking out" volume. Just a...- sulvaat
