Cheap DVD/BluRay players as CD players. Any good?

Just recently put a #30 gbp Philips dvd up against my Rotel RCD-02, both on analogue out - it wasn't as good (a bit to bright for me, less bass and not as detailed), but I could have lived with it. NAD make good dedicated CDPs at a budget price. HTH.

New to PC audio, advice welcome

Just started a similar journey to yourself. For something to plug your headphones into the Turtle Beach Audio Advantage Micro has a better rep. than the Behringer UCA202 at that price - not heard either myself. The Headphonia USB DAC cable looks interesting and quite liked but it's...

Yes (and no!), PC via USB, CDP via co-ax to the V-DAC.

usb - VDAC - are you getting any noise (hummm)?

Hi all, What with all the lurve for the MF V-DAC I was thinking of getting one so I can start using my computer as a proper source and to revitalise my aging Rotel RCD-02 CDP. At the moment I'm using my onboard mobo sound (Realtek 883) and there is a low frequency humm in playback. This...

I'd get a DAC so it could be used with a transport or your computer. Whatever you do don't get a CD changer. No, no, no

128kbps acc - what is it worth doing?

I'll have a look at Spotify, thanks St3ve. Armaegis, thanks for the recommendation. I'll probably skip an internal sound card as I'm getting a low hum through my amp with the PC (but not if I take the headphone out directly from the PC ,probably the PSU, it's not ground loop), so the TB might...

128kbps acc - what is it worth doing?

Hi Brian, Thanks for your answer - so 128k aac isn't that hot I should have been clearer. I have hundreds of CDs and a Rotel RCD 02 to play them on - but there is no way that I can match the variety of the BBCs record library + they do a lot of live concerts . However, why the b%&#ers...

128kbps acc - what is it worth doing?

Hi Armaegis, thanks for your input. I've been using a Rotel RA01 to 50/50 Grado SR80s or Quad 11ls (depends on the time of day!) and I'm as happy as I can afford to be with this set-up at the moment! I'd like to improve the quality of what I'm getting out of the PC, but 128k aac means little...

128kbps acc - what is it worth doing?

Hello everybody, I'm a noob, so please forgive me if I'm in the wrong forum! I'm also new to PC audio, but BBC iPlayer has become my main listening source - usually this is a 128k aac stream, sometimes it's 192k aac. I'm currently using the mobo's Realtek HD ALC883. This all sounds OK, but...
