Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)
When MQA was released, I downloaded a lot of albums, because the idea of having the mastertape sound and all of it in a smaller file.! Whats not to like? I can't remember precisely , but I think the MQA works with something around 18bit. But......if you listen really close & carefully and pay...- Steen Pihl

To my ears, J is king when it comes to midrange! But E might do the trick?- Steen Pihl

Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)
This! At one time I suggested a “travelers edition” or some sort of “outdoor mode” to turn on, when needed! I have been back and forward, between 3.02 & Walkman One a dozen times and have become more & more fond of the Walkman One! But I genuinely believe that Sony made the stock firmware a bit...- Steen Pihl

Please make sure that you haven’t turned gain on in the Walkman One AND the device’s own gain on. that will clash and reduce the level if so. I find the Walkman One great also, but the bass department is a little too audiophile for my taste (I’m not a bass head), so I’m still on 3.02.- Steen Pihl

The Continuation Of The Sony Walkman 1Z/1A Thread!
Since every good suggestion have been used, could it be that the unit itself have a faulty SD card connection? Just my 2 cent + it's pretty annoying when things that should work, doesn't! I have slimmed down my library on the Walkman to an amount that can fit the internal memory. And that makes...- Steen Pihl

Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)
The "Penny" finally dropped on me! I'm using my modded 1Z outdoor (on my way to work) and I kept on finding the Walkman One too light for that. Well. I regard all members of this forum to be highly skilled audio/music fans and I just couldn't make any sense of what I read vs. of what I heard...- Steen Pihl

I'm interested in hearing/reading any observations on the region codes J1, J2. I can "hear" that J3 have more air to it (and a stronger bass), than J, but it gets kind of boring after a while. Any kind of description will be positively received!- Steen Pihl

How ironic! I came onboard “The Sony Train” around late august (2016) in this tread, https://www.head-fi.org/threads/sony-nw-wm1z-wm1a.815841/page-10, and leaned how to remove the volume cap on my 1A Walkman. It was suggested that E was an alright reg. and that it didn’t have the volume cap. So...- Steen Pihl

Sony Walkman custom firmware (non-Android)
I'm currently on stock 3.02, because after a week on 3.01, it ended up as being just a bit too dark! I've got 60+ ears/hearing and love my midrange with a dynamic punch in the bass. That's all good and fine in 3.02. What the Walkman One has given me, is a reestablished understanding of the sound...- Steen Pihl

That’s very interesting! I use my modded 1z (in a 1A) shell, mainly to and from work, biking! I find the Walkman One a bit to the thin side, tuning wise. For my purpose you need the body from the official 3.02. I have tried any tuning combination possible, to no success. I always end up with the...- Steen Pihl
