    V-dac modifications

filin44 1. you can try and see how the sound changes and if you like it or not. 2. Higher voltage rating is better. It must not be lower in values than stock voltage rating. 3. From my past experiments, -ve should be facing the pcb board edge when viewed from the top of the board. Hope...

    V-dac modifications

For caps 1-4, I use Simlic II. Nichicon Muse KZ and Panasonic FC are suitable. The values are the same as the original except voltage ratings are higher whenever possible. Values are stated at previous posts. For 5-6, I use flim caps, 4.7uF Gad Viva Audio caps. Search back for previous posts...

I am using meanwell medical power supply which is universal voltage 110-240. Look at 1st post for the photos but not sure if this model is available any more. 12vdc adaptor should be readily available if you search on the net.

There will be benefits by changing the two ic although I cant coment more as I changed both ic and caps. you get better results changing both caps and ic. Currently I have just picked up a benchmark dac 1 (non usb) and is still burning in my new interconect. On first impressions, the dac...

Morph, the changes you shown looks good. In addition, you can also try to change the two little brown caps beside the blue relay RY12W-k. They are in the output signal path and wil have an impact. Also depending on your opamp, it may be good idea to bypass the opamp by connecting a small...

jlaakso, You can get the caps and opamps from RS components online or eeven ebay online. I bought some of the caps from ebay with opamps from RS components and some from my local electronics shop. Different people have different taste and unfortunately you will still have to try out to see...

Sluggoaudio:I did not jumper the outout caps. i remembered measurring the dc offset after I switched to 49860. There was no difference in the dc offset levels from the original and they are pretty high. With advice from kind forummers Joseph and Dutchamps, I did not try to jumper the output...

    V-dac modifications

I was at my local electronics store and happened to chance upon some caps near the counter. Their lead lengths are long and the 4.7uF are not expensive. I was thinking of 4.7uF or 10uF but based on Dutchamps results, I decided to try 4.7uF. 4.7uF is smaller than 10uF and I guess they will...

    V-dac modifications

Dutchamps, Thanks for the advice. It is well documented that Polypropylene at C3 and C4 will give much better results and I do agree with you. The thing that is pulling me back is that to fit the more popular and better ones inside, it is too big and a challenge to fit inside the original...

I am using LME49860 which specs wise I think is pretty much the same or close to LM4562 although I did not check to compare them. I did measure the dc offset previously and they are definitely not below 1mV and not to be bypassed. Let me know if you have a way to reduce the dc offset such...

    V-dac modifications

I changed out C160, C155, C55, C60 to 220pF Polypropylene and sound did improve sightly. However the improvement in sound could also be partly due to change in material from Polystyrene to Polypropylene. The improvement in sound is slight but still can be distinguished easily. Thanks to...
