I agree, the Halcyon sounds best on lower bass filters!- sbtourist

FWIW, I live in the UK and just tried to add the Ozar to the cart: at checkout, VAT was added as expected, so that confirms prices are excluding taxes.- sbtourist

Great write up, I'd also recommend the MATSUSHITA / NATIONAL PCC88 / 7DJ8 for a warmer sound.- sbtourist

Try the silver bottom filter and closed port, IMHO makes it way more balanced on the bass side, still retaining the estats precision and airiness.- sbtourist

I agree the bass on the OM is somehow more precise, but to me it's also more pronounced, and that holds on all my sources: so if one wanted a more neutral experience, with a less prominent lower end, I would recommend Halcyon on grey nozzle. Then as you said, there are many other variables, last...- sbtourist

It's interesting to see how people perceive things differently: to me it's the opposite, with OM being "bassier" / more coloured than Halcyon (obviously using same nozzle on both).- sbtourist

I'm happy to see Bob return to the older form: I have both Halcyon and Opus Mia, but end up spending more time with the Halcyon as I find the OM less comfortable (chunky and heavy). Then, I also find the Halcyon more neutral, but that's another story :)- sbtourist

IMR R3 Halcyon, R3 Phase, R3 Semper - Discussion / Impressions Thread
It is odd you're hearing the treble spike in the Semper: I can't hear it in the Halcyon and Opus Mia, as that range should be covered by the estats, and the same should apply to the Semper. On the other hand, I can hear it on the Rah (although tolerable, and the gold filter fixes it almost...- sbtourist

I wonder how many of us are calling the silver nozzle "grey", and other way around :) I wish Bob used a better colour system...- sbtourist

Glad to see some love for the Zeniths here, I love them too :) ... just have to get a better cable as I'm still on the original springy one.- sbtourist

Nice, curious if you get it working as a desktop dac/amp while connected to a power source: mine starts crackling after some time, typically 30 minutes.- sbtourist

If that helps, I have driver flex with my Zeniths, asked Bob about that some time ago and he said it's perfectly fine and there's nothing to worry about.- sbtourist

That's interesting. I find the Halcyon more accurate, in particular as the Rah still exhibits sibilant upper-mids/treble on some recordings (although way less than previous models). Halcyon is instead clean and smooth.- sbtourist

Agreed, and the Halcyon also scale better than the Rah IMHO.- sbtourist

I love the Halcyon, but I would have got the Opus if I had known (even more considering I bought the Halcyon after the latest cancellations). It's ok, as I said I still love them so no major regrets :)- sbtourist
