Trouble finding suitable earbuds at any price...
Hello all, I apologize if this is a duplicate post...I just posted this question and it seems to have disappeared. I am having trouble locating a hi-end pair of in-ear monitors/buds at just about any price (trying to stay below $1000 US). The problem is with any type of earbud that...- russdenney

Having trouble locating suitable ear buds at just about any price...
So, I am looking for a great sounding pair of earbuds for less than $1000 US. My issue is this...I need something small and ultraportable like an in-ear bud/monitor for travel purposes, BUT I absolutely can't wear anything that inserts into the ear canal - my ear canals hurt like hell...- russdenney

DAC settings - higher res than source material???
Hello all, Most of my library is ripped from CDs at AIFF 44.1 kHz sample rate - so essentially CD quality... My question is, is it advisable to only stream to my DAC at the 44.1 kHz (CD quality) setting since this matches my source material? I have heard that up-sampling a lower...- russdenney

Adding a sub to Bookshelf setup. Does it make sense?
Thank you for your input. I took the plunge and picked one up today...and what a heavenly difference. It took a little tweaking to get the little extra "kiss" of sound I was looking for without overdoing it. Russ- russdenney

Adding a sub to Bookshelf setup. Does it make sense?
Thanks for sharing your extensive input here. I have confirmed with Marantz the preamp output is in conjunction with the signal to the speakers. So good news there... Interestingly enough, I am pretty happy with the bass on the setup (amazing really for a bookshelf!)...some of the tom...- russdenney

Adding a sub to Bookshelf setup. Does it make sense?
So, here is a pic of the setup... A Marantz PM-11S3 2 channel integrated amp (which is heavenly--nothing like their run of the mill stuff) and speakers sitting on a credenza on my home office: As you might see, going to the left/right with a floor stander is not my first choice. My...- russdenney

Adding a sub to Bookshelf setup. Does it make sense?
So... I have a new pair of Bowers & Wilkins 805D3 bookshelf/monitor speakers that are awesome--and they damn well should be at $6000 for the pair! My question is this... Due to location and size constraints, I need to stick with a bookshelf. I happy very happy with the 805D3s, but...- russdenney

Ripping CDs to uncompressed audio
Okay, newb question here... If I rip a CD to an uncompressed format (like AIFF 16bit/1,411kbps) and play it back from my computer (versus playing on a CD player), all other things being equal, will it be as good as CD quality playback in theory? Thanks for your input. Russ- russdenney

Watches - another passion of ours, it seems...post your pics!
My apologies if I offended with my ETA claims... I will point out that the Daytona movement was pulled in-house some # of years ago with the caliber 4130 - one the finest chronograph movements known to man. With that, I believe Rolex has become 100% in-house production save for a few parts...- russdenney

Every 7-10 years you will spend around $700 US for a service assuming you didn't absolutely beat the hell out of it (normal wear and tear).- russdenney

Watches - another passion of ours, it seems...post your pics!
Certainly not everyone's taste... I will say this...they have been a rock solid place to put some money. I bought my step-father a steel & gold submariner in 2003 for just over $5000 new. That same watch is pushing $13,000 now. The same has happened with all the Rolex's I have bought in the...- russdenney

I own several with this engraving. It is VERY subtle in real life. Almost don't notice unless you are looking for it.- russdenney
