What are vintage amps comparable to?
Thanks for the replies, I think what I'll do is get a line conditioner just for the hell of it and be happy with what I got.- Puddleglum

What are vintage amps comparable to?
I've got this marantz 2215b, which sounds pretty damn good with my dt770/80s hooked up to my crappy sound card on my computer. I just bought a pair of K701's and am going to buy a firestone fubar USB DAC to round out my setup. Because I've never heard a better headphone amp, I'm wondering...- Puddleglum

Speakers For University - Any Suggestions?
Depending on your price range I would go for Axiom Audio M3ti $280 Infinity Primus 150 $170 new $100 used I have the infinities, and I'm bringing those to the dorms next week. I've heard the axioms though and those are definitely a great deal. -
Phono stage
As for a cartridge, which is the more important decision, I was thinking of something in the $500 dollar range, like the Grado Sonata. If you have any better Ideas I'm all ears, because I know very little.- Puddleglum

Phono stage
I'm looking at getting a pretty nice turntable in the next couple of months. I was thinking at the lowest a SOTA Moonbeam but I'm really aiming at a VPI Hw-19 Jr. with rega RB300 over at todds website. Thing is, I have this Fisher 400 that's supposed to have a pretty good phono stage, but I...- Puddleglum

Minidisc players
Ok, do all new minidisc players have Netmd? I was looking at picking up the Sharp DS70 for my trip to vegas. I know this player gets good reviews, but just making sure it uses Netmd.- Puddleglum

Tube Question
While I think MKmelt's idea is a good one (and one I should do anyways). I believe that the particular tube is bad. While the other tubes don't make any sound when I lightly shake them, the bad tube does. In addition the Scratching noise gets worse the longer it's on.- Puddleglum

Tube Question
These were matched tubes, and no there is no all over glow. That would have worried me a lot more. It's just that one burns slightly brighter than the others, it's barely noticable. I think it's a bad tube so I'll have to get a new pair.- Puddleglum

Grado SR60 or Grado SR80 ??????????
out of a soundcard or ipod unamped, I would definitely say the SR60's. The SR80's can sound a little muddy without a good amp.- Puddleglum

jolida jd 100 player + ?amp+ Senn 650
I've read that the output from the Jolida is of decent quality, so I'd imagine that you could use it until you got the money for an amp.- Puddleglum

Which of these two amps would you get?
Seeing as no-one seems to know much about this amp, I think I'll pass and hold out for an MPX3 instead.- Puddleglum

Which of these two amps would you get?
That has always been an option. If I did go the singlepower route, I think I would spend a little more money, probably $1000 and get either a fairly base MPX3, or a highly upgraded PPX3-6sn7. The reason I post now, is because I am unsure of whether to take this deal on the Skorpion mostly.- Puddleglum

Which of these two amps would you get?
No replies? I guess I'll give more specifics then. I plan on using this amp with two different cans, my DT770-80's, and soon a pair of HD650's. The other parts of my setup will be something like this: Voodoochile "tushi" 3960, through headphile silvers. I also plan on getting a tubedac+ in a...- Puddleglum

Which of these two amps would you get?
Ok, I kinda figured out what I want out of an amp, and I'm trying to decide between these two. I found a good deal on a new Skorpion HV-1 for $400 (retails for $650), which I'm sure nobody is familiar with, or I could get a MG head OTL32. The Skorpion is a risky proposition since I could only...- Puddleglum
