I'm looking at upgrading my stock EH tubes on my Cary pre. I've come across some Slyvania 6sn7GT tubes with yellow lettering and the Slyvania lightning bolt logo on its black base. No chrome on top but chrome flashing on the bottom third. T plates with three holes. I can't seem to find anything...

Recently changed things around..     Added a pair of ERA Design 4s     Optical out to a Benchmark DAC1.  Balanced out to a Ray Samuels SR71B, single ended to a McIntosh MAC4300V.       and balanced out to an Audeze LCD2 Rev 1.  

I know DaveBSC isn't a big fan of them, but I've got Acoustic Zens in my system.  Matrix Reference IIs and Silver Reference IIs.  I like them a lot, for what it's worth.

I'd say it's absolutely still relevant.  The real question is cost.  It will be a definite upgrade from your Fiio setup up, but at a certain price point you may be able to do better.
