doesn't this make you thinking about the $300 headphones, and what you're getting in return? what about custom cables? They're all cheaper than this $500 cable.

None came even close to Bose Triport among full-sized headphones.

It was $164 at one point at earphonesolutions.com, and it still is $164 shipped at shipdog.com.

this post should be like a mandatory read for all head-fiers unless one has absolutely zero interest in closed phones. simply the best headphone review i've ever read anywhere. thank you!

Pro4aat is a good value for the money and was my gateway phone to head-fi. If it wasn't for the strain it put on my neck, I don't think I would have felt the need to get another full-sized phone; at least it would have been really hard justifying spending the kind of money I had to for another...

Well, we already have 'recommendations for best headphones' sticky, but that didn't stop me from exploring other threads. Having this thread would save a lot of people time. I don't believe a sticky is a final authority on anything, but rather a starting point in your search.

Interesting... I have exactly the opposite experience from the two phones you've mentioned. UE 5 Pro gave me neither the extended frequency response nor the soundstage I wanted. 595 gave me harsh treble and weak bass out of the box, but after about five hours of break-in period, out of 2006...
