    Meze Audio 109 Pro

It's a pretty fun all-rounder. Great with most genres. There are a lot of poorly recorded/mastered, but otherwise fantastic rock and metal albums. The 109 Pro won't do much to hide that, but for the worst offenders a little EQ really takes the edge off.

Fair enough. I've not heard the MM-500 to say either way. But most full-size planars in my experience, including those that are supposedly easy to drive, need more power than most portable devices can deliver in order to achieve sound quality that's worthy of what they cost. Sure, you can power...

    Meze Audio 109 Pro

I'm hesitant to compare the 109 Pro to anything besides easy-to-drive DD cans like Focal. Even planars that are marketed as portable-friendly tend to really improve only when driven by desktop gear.

    Meze Audio 109 Pro

I love how the 109 Pro uses a combination of carbon, cellulose, and beryllium, all 3 of which are arguably the best sounding driver materials commonly used today. The treble on the 109 Pro is north of neutral but it plays amazingly well with warmer DAC/amps. R-2R sounds great through them. I...

These headphones sound pretty great. EQ is pretty minimal, which is also great. The smaller cable that came in my box doesn't work. Yikes!

I think you can blow canned air over the surface of the driver to remove any dust particles. At least, most headphone driver can handle that amount of torque as long as you’re not blasting right into the driver.

Noob Question Low Gain VS High Gain Equal Volume

At its most useful, I find low gain is great for most IEMs and high gain is great for most full size. Though I really never need to put the Jot 2 into high gain except for 300 ohm headphones. I guess this is more my DAP/portable experience.

Comment by 'PopZeus' on listing 'Meze 99 Noir w/ Meze SPC 2.5mm balanced cable'

Larger than average, but not huge. As a common point of reference, I need to extend the HD6XX 5 clicks to fit my head. I don't recall exactly what it was like new, but the headband has plenty of elasticity left. With the 99 series, I just assume buying used means having to replace any parts...

    Bassy, single dynamic-driver IEM recommendations

If one is looking to IEMs for soundstage, I think that might be a waste of time. But then again, for me, wide staging is what open back headphones and speakers are for. Whenever I've had a wide soundstage on an IEM, it sounds compressed and less dynamic, which I definitely don't prefer. I am...

    Bassy, single dynamic-driver IEM recommendations

Hey, here's a quick summary of my journey the past year or so: My IEMs, current and for the near future, are the Thieaudio Elixir, FiiO FD5, and FiiO FD7. The FD5 might have the best technical 1DD in its price range that I've heard, but the tuning is too V-shaped for me, so I EQ it. Only thing...

    Warm sounding single DD?

Thieaudio Elixir. It has similar performance as the KATO but with a preferable tuning. Through sampling many of Moondrop's 1DD offerings, I've come to the realization that I do not like strict Harman target adherence. The Elixir is very close to the KATO's FR, but has a bit more sub-bass than...

    FiiO FD5 - 1DD Flagship from FiiO

For me the biggest positive EQ change I made with the FD5 is to boost 1k by 2-3 dB and 2k by 1-1.5 dB. (I do drop 4k and 8k too but I like a relaxed lower treble.) I think most audiophiles will appreciate how easy it is to take the FD5 from V-shape to bassy neutral. For me, it's worth it because...
