Brainwavz Audio B400 4-Way Quad Driver 3D Printed IEM

I had a similar story with a worse ending over Christmas. I bought a pair of b200s, was excited to unpack them, but very disappointed to realise something was wrong with the right ear piece armatures (way softer than left, and also noticeably crackly). "No problems," say Brainwavz, "send them...

    Shure earphones not durable?

I've had 3 pairs of Shures in the last 5 years or so - I love the mid-heavy sound, but damnit those cables are crap. Every single pair has had cable cracking issues. Now, I run a lot (circa 35-40km a week), and sweat is not kind to any cables, but I have definitely found other brands (eg...

    Recommendations for a runner?

I bought the SoundMagic pl50 after several Shures crapped out with their crappy cables. The cables are excellent, the isolation with olives is quite reasonable in my ears, and _without the guides_ microphonics are low. FYI, I have found that ear guides - for me - really increase the...

    Shure Olives Softening?

I know exactly what you mean, mine do this too - I think it's to do with sweat getting into them, cause if you try washing them in peroxide etc the same thing happens. Dunno what the solution is.

    E4:?

You can always get another pair if you love them, or the SE310 which is the new Shure model at the same footing. Personally, having loved e4's myself, I was okay with the sound and fit of my Westone UM2's as well.

How do the old Shure E4C's compare to the modern IEMs?

Love the sound, fit and isolation, but both my pairs had cracking cables after circa 12 months and for that kind of money, it pissed me off.

    Comparing lower-end IEMs for running

Dunno how serious you are, Gluegun, but be very careful if you're transitioning to barefoot running; its popularity on the internet far exceeds its popularity with real runners in real life, and there's a reason for it. If you're biomechanically perfect it's fine, but the vast majority of us...

Deal alert: Shure SCL4 for $119 shipped - today only

Yeah I heard that, too, Shimmer, and I have no doubt that is the case, because they cracked both time right where the skin contact is, and I wore them to the gym all the time. Nonetheless, for this kind of dosh I expect more than a year - and have had it from other brands.   But the...

Deal alert: Shure SCL4 for $119 shipped - today only

I love these phones, but both my pairs suffered from horrendous cable cracking over the ear. Torn about this - good deal, bad durability.

    Comparing lower-end IEMs for running

I run with pl-50. FYI if you run at the gym, the cable is a bit short to rest on the treadmill. It can be done, but you need to run right up at the front. I bought the pl50 after my shure e4's cracked on the cables twice I love the sound, but can't justify that crappy cable quality. I'm sure it...

    Wire stiffness, general comfort

Seconding Westone. The cables are, imho, second to none.

Where to buy Sound Magic Pl50

Bought these from Focalprice myself two weeks ago (for only $55AUD!). They took 7 working days to arrive from when I ordered them - quite reasonable. Fyi, I have heard _terrible_ feedback on mp4nation from people in Australia (check the whirlpool forums), so buyer beware there.

Review by 'paddy567' on item 'WESTONE UM2 TRUE FIT DUAL DRIVER EARPHONES UM 2'

I lost these on the train, and boy was I sad.   UM2 are good phones, the best thing about Westone is their almost legendary build quality. Make no mistake, these puppies are built to last: strain relief out the woozah, and a thick plastic housing that looks and feels tough. Westone's braided...

Review by 'paddy567' on item 'Shure E4c-n Sound Isolating Earphones (Black)'

I like this phone so much I am onto my second pair. Are they perfect? No. Are they the best IEM for the price? Unless you get them at $79 like I did the second time, no. Do they have a good soundstage? Not really. Are they durable? Like a boat made of paper.   But...Do they isolate well...

Review by 'paddy567' on item 'Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro Earphones (White)'

Major caveat: I have small ear canals, and I appreciate strong mids. These phones are not for anyone with my preferences.   They are huge, they don't go very far in my ears, and I found getting a good seal all but impossible. Isolation was appalling; the cable was stiff and heavy; the mids...
