I own a pair of Grados and some ear buds, and the grado's leak way more sound. I am not sure if that is what your asking but yes the Grado's do let in a lot of sound.

I have owned two 1st generation iPod Nanos. IMO it sounds much better than the 5.5G iPod or the 2G iPod. If you can get your hands on a 1st gen nano make sure you protect the screen as it is very susceptible to scratches.
