What age did you grow out of metal?

Quote:   Recent metal doesn't mean harsh vocals. I think you could give a try to My dying bride's A line of deathless kings, Stratovarius' Polaris or Katatonia's The great cold distance. And there are so much more.     I got into music with metal. Cradle of filth and Lordi were the...

    Best headphones for metal?

Quote:   I'm afraid a set of LCD2 and a proper amp are out of his budget     I just think you went unlucky with both pairs of Grado. I bought mine used almost a year ago and there has been no problem at all so far. Compared to my Shure SE215 and HD600, my Grado SR80i delivers a more...

Most bizarre album of you've heard? [any genre]

As for metal, I can quote Drudkh - Forgotten legends, Mantus - Deep hypnosis trance and, less "bizarre" but still special, Killing joke - Hosannas from the basements of Hell. These three albums have a strong effect on me, and I really love it. Hell - Hell is another species of "bizarre" metal...

    Turning an HD600 1/8 to 1/4 adapter

Hello there,   I recently acquired a set of Sennheiser HD600, which came with an 1/8 to 1/4 gold-plated adapter. The problem with this adaptater is that it had solid brass black cuff that prevents from plugging other 1/8 connectors than that of the HD600. I wanted to use it with my Grado, so...

Review by 'Oeufdepoire' on item 'Sennheiser HD 600'

I will compare them to the Grado SR80i with both S and L cushes, and to the Shure SE215.   You don't need super-quality equipment to turn the HD600 into an instrument of bliss. My setup is composed of a GrubDAC and a Millet « Starving student » hybrid amp (12AU7 version), built with good...

    Millett "Starving Student" hybrid amp

Ewww... Two day after testing the amp for the first time, the right channel just ceased working. I'm stuck, because the problem seems particuliar, and I am ignorant at electronics. Thus, I'm asking help from you electronic gurus.   Here's the matter : V1 belongs to the right channel, and...

    Millett "Starving Student" hybrid amp

After a very, very long procrastination that began when I finally gathered all the elements, I eventually started building my MSSHA.   It has been more work than I thought, but also infinitely more pleasure.   Here are the pics of the complete process.

    GrubDac assistance please!

There's no shorts between the traces between the chips and ground.   I've changed the output jack one more time, still no sound. All the contacts between U3's pins 1 and 16 (the lineouts) and pin 4 (line ground) are OK : the contacts, the traces, the resistor, the caps, the jack, the...

    GrubDac assistance please!

The DAC doesn't "produce" sound. It is recognized by the computer, and its LED lights. It's not a volume problem, I've tested and messed with foobar2000's volume, Windows' volume, and all the "mixers" in the task bar. I've tested several output jacks. My multimeter says they're all fine...
