Magni/Modi vs ODAC/O2
And praytell, what are "messy tube characteristics"? Keep in mind that we're not in the 50s anymore and there are plenty of tubes with THD and other effects typically associated with tubes because of guitarists who can't manage a signal chain properly well below the scientifically accepted...- MrGreen

Magni/Modi vs ODAC/O2
Quote: Hopefully we won't have to listen to hoards of morons who praise nwavguy as the saviour of bargain amplifiers when you can get comparable or better performance for less, and have been able to for a long time; as though he is some kind of messiah to bring about unique designs and...- MrGreen

Magni/Modi vs ODAC/O2
Do you really need to compare two dime-a-dozen options at length, when you're only going to be using them once in the signal chain? Chances are your headphones are going to have a significantly higher impact on degrading the sound than either of these, because DACs aren't really complicated...- MrGreen

The Perth, Western Australia Head-Fi Meet Thread
Anak, can you bring the SR-009? I can bring some stax most likely. Lambda Sig + T1, if you object to running your 009 out of a T1, since I recall you weren't going to bring a stax amp for the one I missed. I havent tried running my DAC out of my slowly dying laptop in ages, but it shouldn't...- MrGreen

The Stax thread (New)
The electrostat panel I am talking about is a Quad ESL 63 and also a stax ELS-4A. The quad has very bad damage, the sta ELS-4A has "quiet buzzing in one panel". I don't own the speakers so I can't comment - it's hard to find an ELS in perth that isn't thousands of dollars, so I am looking at...- MrGreen

This is mostly aimed at people with technical knowledge about the repair of electrostats. 1. What usually causes "buzzing" in an electrostatic speaker? 2. How hard is it to fix this buzzing? 3. Is it impossible to truly repair an electrostatic speaker to its original state if parts for it...- MrGreen

Causes of Soundstage, Imaging, etc.
Quote: Reverberation tells us the size of the room usually. Our ears accentuate treble, and we use this to stereoposition more accurately, or create soundstage. Treble has a smaller wavelength meaning it hardly ever reaches ears in the same manner (colouration, volume, if at all etc)...- MrGreen

Treble, delay and reverberations cause soundstage. It's that simple. If you don't understand it exactly, look up binocular vs monocular vision. It's a pretty similar concept.- MrGreen
