you did just fine. there's nothing out there better. really just different flavors but not better and the difference between he HD650 and HD600 is not even worth the thought. Bob Katz prefers the HD600s over the HD650s and he actually knows what he's listening for when comparing hi-end gear...

get the hd600 and go shopping around for a used DAC/AMP. as mentioned before ive got an apogee one now and love it with the hd600. it's around $150 used. it's got a 1/8 mini out to run into your headphones and the hd600 stock cable has the same thing once you remove the 1/4 adapter that it comes...

just got it and i must say for 250 bucks it is a gr8 little gadget. ive been using a Grace M902 for the past 2 years which I really enjoyed and i must say though the grace is better the Apogee One is a great way to get a very nice and cool DAC that can record and is portable. It drives my HD600...

used or refurbished HD600s. check ebay audiogon or buy on the forums here. between $190 and $240. can't really do any better for that price. maybe AKG K701. they are also used in studios alot cuz they are very flat across the spectrum.
