    SMSL D400EX & D400ES - Impressions Thread

I recently picked up a DL300. Aside from having headphone outs and lacking AES, it seems to be the exact same specs as the D400 Pro. I’m curious to know if anyone can confirm this. I love the sound, but am wondering if the standalone DAC D400 Pro will offer better output performance/quality for...

HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread

I don't EQ headphones. I EQ the audio/music. No amount of EQ is going to change the "stock" sound of a headphone. It's going to sound the way it's going to sound. That's why we buy different headphones. Because they each have their own sound ;-) - As well, I don't use measuring equipment. I use...

HIFIMAN Arya - Arya Stealth - Arya Organic :: Impressions Thread

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of the purpose of EQ. EQ is used to tailor to taste. All music you listen to is EQ'd when its mastered, and MEANT to be EQ'd after it's mastered. Professionally mastered music, is EQ'd to be as flat as possible to be compatible with multiple playback...

TOPPING D70PRO SABRE DAC and A70PRO Amplifier is Up

Sheesh...147db of dynamic range?! - Wouldn't that make this the best HP amp of all time?

ifI Zen Can + Edition XS (Balanced) - Suggestions for amp upgrade to "warmer" sound <$300 usd.

Hi All, I've been playing a bit for the first time with a balanced HP connection; using Edition XS & Ananda Stealth HP's. Comparing, at first, the Zen Can single-ended against an Atom+ & Liquid Spark, the Zen Can fell flat. I then read I needed to upgrade the PSU and use Balanced connection for...

    Sennheiser HD 660S2 thread

I've owned the 660s twice now. I picked it up the 2nd time when it dropped to $300 recently. I've been disappointed both times. Because there's no bass or treble, and the very narrow width. I think the 660s would be fairly priced at $250. I'd have a VERY hard time paying >$400 for a similar...

    Shure SRH840a

These 840a's are now my favorite all rounder. Great for listening, monitoring, tracking, and mixing. The default tuning is a great balance between fun and flat. I like a little smiley curve (which it has) for listening and critical listening. I usually have to EQ every headphone to suit my...

For those of us with multiple headphones, which ones are you listening with now?

I'm new to this thread. Been a while since I jumped on Head-Fi. - My daily drivers are now down to: HD599, Sundara, SRH-840a, M50x, XM4, & AirPods Pro,

    Shure SRH840a

I cant comment on the Focal comparison, but the plastic is lighter (and cheaper?), and is a better design than the old 840. The swivel points of the cups are not in an easily breakable position. Its way more comfortable, and though its early, It's a practical and utilitarian design, that I'm...

    Shure SRH840a

Def the 840a. The only area where 770 wins, is comfort. If you like a scooped/smiley EQ, and listen at quiet levels (the bass distorts a bit early), you may really like the 770. The 840a has better tonal balance, and goes louder.

    Shure SRH840a

Mainly the old 840, the M50x, M40x, and DT770. The quality of the timbre/tonality blows away the M50x/M40x (it's most obvious competitors). But I have all the HP's in my signature, and can reference those, anytime. I was recently using just the DT770 for studio monitoring (comfort), and...

    Shure SRH840a

These new 840a's are my favorite headphones. They are great for both casual listening, and studio monitoring. They're well balanced/rounded, and don't do anything wrong. They improve on the old 840, with better/lighter design, more even frequency balance (more bass, and no 9k peak like the old...

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

Perhaps its personal taste, but when listening to music, I usually like to EQ down 500hz-2khz 3-4db, shelf boost the bass at 70-90hz 3-4db, and treble at 5-7k 3-4db. With the 560s, no matter how much I EQ, that mid/treble region stick out. It's also a bit dry and uncolored (to some, they may...

The New HD 560S: Linear Acoustics at a Breakthrough Value

Also agree with this review. The 560S is better suited as a multimedia work tool, rather than a hp for enjoyment/pleasure..imo
