++ FULL-SIZE HEADPHONE RECOMMENDATIONS THREAD++ CLOSED: Please post a thread in the Introductions, Help and Advice forum

Hello all,   So I currently own an odac and Schiit Magni.  Now I just need my headphones.  I was looking at two, the HE-400 and Mad Dogs by Mr Speaker with the new Alpha Pads.  Both are supposed to be great headphones and I'm just wondering which would be better for me.  I have done much...

    Question

I currently have the magni/modi stack.  I'm looking at either the Mad Dog or the HE-400.  Which would sound best out of the magni/modi?  From what I've read the Mad Dog seems to be a little harder to drive than the HE-400, and I'm leaning more and more towards the mad dogs.  Thats why I'm...

Mr Speaker Mad Dog / HE-400

Both seem great.  Both gaining popularity quickly.  Isolation aside, based on reviews I've seen both have a lot offer and is difficult to decide between the two.  These are some of the things I think I know but would like conformation to make sure I'm right;   Bass:  Both similar, Mad Dog...

Sen 598 vs AKG k702 or Q701 +amp Am I going overboard for what I need?

The e9 is an amplifier by itself.  All it will do is give your headphones more juice to drive them better.  The Purpose of attaching an E7 to the doc on the E9 is to add a DAC.  The purpose of attaching a DAC is to provide better overall audio quality, while the E9 by itself will only give your...

Your question is too open ended.  What kind of music do you listen too?  Do you have a budget?  What mp3 player do you have?

Top Ohm load for Fiio e17 Alpine

Yes, I remember reading that thread when doing research on the E11 :)  If anything it got me more interested in this amp.  In it's price range the E11 is hard to beat in terms of quality and portability.

Top Ohm load for Fiio e17 Alpine

You could give the fiio e11 a go.  It's a cheap, small, good quality amp.  I have one for my ipod and am very pleased with it.

Top Ohm load for Fiio e17 Alpine

The fiio e17 supports 16 - 300 ohm headphones.   32 ohms - 250 ohm Beyerdynamic versions would do fine with the e17, but not the 600 ohm verion.     The Beyers DT880 and DT990 are good options.  Yes, they require amping to bring out there full potential.  Without amping, volume and sound...

Sen 598 vs AKG k702 or Q701 +amp Am I going overboard for what I need?

I would say go with the Q701 (I edited my post above), but if I were you I would do more research on the k702.  I read a quick first impression of the k702 65TH Anniversary Edition.  It was from someone here on Head-fi whom I know for a fact knows what he's talking about.  You can read his first...

Sen 598 vs AKG k702 or Q701 +amp Am I going overboard for what I need?

Dont know too much about the k702, but the 598 I do know.  Like most all sennheisers, the HD598s are not bass heavy at all.  Shouldn't cause any headaches.  They should do fairly well without amping, though amping them never hurts.  I am sure you will be pleased with your choice of music with...

Sub $100 Desktop Amp for DT 990 PRO 250 ohm

The O2 is good, but a past your budget.     You could try the Schiit Magni.  $99 here: http://schiit.com/cart/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=0&products_id=13   If thats still to much for you, then another option is the Fiio E9, $88...

You say the beats are overpriced... what is a headphone that is similar in sound but cheaper?

Actually; the DT990 pros are hard to drive and require amping to bring out there full potential.  You would need to buy an amp as well and the DT990 250 ohms (the cheapest ones) are already $200 alone. (amazon price)

You say the beats are overpriced... what is a headphone that is similar in sound but cheaper?

Take a look at the DT880/DT990.  I've read a lot of good stuff about the DT990 pro and plan on getting a pair for gaming.  They have a great movie theatre like sound, great bass impact.  The only bad thing about them that I have heard is the treble may be a bit to much for some.  It's very...

ATH-M50 v Bose QC 15 vs Phillips Citiscape Uptown

M50's would do well for the music you listen too.  Pretty balanced headphones, slightly favors base and treble over mids, good build quality.  Agreed with nuggets, don't get the QC, the M50s do well with isolation anyways. The m50 comfort problem could be fixed by using the stretch mod...

Rank These Headphones (for a Metal listener)?

I don't think the hd598 would be good for metal as they don't have a lot of bass that will make metal music fun.  Based off some reviews, I'm sure the V-modas will impress you. You could try some Beyerdynamic DT880/DT990.  The DT990s have good bass and "sparkly" treble.   Hope this helps.
