Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions
Those might be the ones I'm talking about that are being included as spares with the DT-1770. Do they look like this? Left: Beyer's stock pads on the DT-770 and available for purchase separately as the EDT770S. Right: The extra pads that Beyer includes in the DT-1770 box...- marcoarment

Beyerdynamic DT-1770: Product Info, Discussion and Impressions
An extra set of black pleather pads is included in the DT-1770 box. These differ from the Beyer black pleather pads found on the DT-770-32 and available for purchase separately as the EDT770S. If you have a 1770 and a 770, put those extra pleather pads from the 1770 on the 770. To me...- marcoarment

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
There were also plenty of headphone amps before Schiit came around. Plenty of great existing solutions? Reason for caution. Plenty of mediocre-to-bad existing solutions? Opportunity. And having used many of these, I can attest to the category's mediocrity. You have either noisy, awful mic...- marcoarment

Schiit Happened: The Story of the World's Most Improbable Start-Up
While everyone's speculating about the new products, given what Jason's said recently, I think these are both plausible and potentially interesting as a customer: Mjolnarok: (please don't call it that) Mjolnir is awesome and very powerful. Ragnarok sits comfortably above it, offering far...- marcoarment

Schiit Gungnir DAC
Excellent timing. I suspect my Gungnir's USB input might be flaky and came here to see if there was a USB Gen 3 coming soon. I can definitely go optical for a few weeks while the product line sorts itself out.- marcoarment

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions
^^^ Yup, that's me. Thanks! Quote: The PM-3 and B&O H6 are in a close race for my favorite. Physically, H6 is significantly lighter, slimmer on the head, and has more color options. The H6's earpads are smaller, shallower, and firmer than the PM-3's, but the H6 is so much lighter with...- marcoarment

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions
The ones I bought two weeks ago (and were so bad that I returned them) sounded pretty thin overall and had noticeable telephone-like midrange distortion — not bad enough that I'd say they were obviously broken, but plausibly bad enough that this may just be how the T5p sounds. I couldn't...- marcoarment

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions
Agree on the excellent isolation. We may have had very different T5p experiences. I couldn't bear it and thought it sounded awful, honestly. One of my biggest disappointments in any headphone. Maybe I got a lemon. At any rate, the PM-3 is far superior to the T5p I heard.- marcoarment

OPPO To Reveal PM-3 Planar Magnetic Headphones and HA-2 Portable Headphone Amplifier at RMAF
Sorry, didn't mean to start a big thing. I just selfishly want a balanced cable so I can plug it into my HE-6's Mjolnir at my desk and not keep switching between two amps.- marcoarment

OPPO To Reveal PM-3 Planar Magnetic Headphones and HA-2 Portable Headphone Amplifier at RMAF
Just posted my PM-3 review over in the impressions thread. In short: They're excellent. Quick note on balanced cabling, since it was asked a couple weeks ago in this thread: The cable is socketed, but the earcup end is just a 3.5mm stereo TRS plug, not a 4-conductor TRRS. I'm guessing that the...- marcoarment

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions
I've been testing the PM-3 all day and added it to my portable headphone mega-review. In short: it's fantastic. Sound is very balanced, with a slight treble roll-off and a strong midrange presence. There's a little bit of midrange harshness with some music, but overall it's a very good...- marcoarment

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions
I have (and like) the M500s and will do the comparison as soon as my PM-3 arrives. Best guess so far: the PM-3 will likely have more treble presence. M500 sounds generally good except for its noticeably muffled high end.- marcoarment

Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions
Me too. The world has lots of great planar headphones already, but almost none that isolate well, very few under $500, and absolutely none that can reasonably be used on a plane. This is my primary interest in the PM-3 — it's breaking new ground, and so far, is the only one. I just hope...- marcoarment

OPPO To Reveal PM-3 Planar Magnetic Headphones and HA-2 Portable Headphone Amplifier at RMAF
Very much looking forward to this. The $400ish portable headphone category could really use some competition. Plus, there are so few closed orthos, and the existing ones are nowhere near "portable" (and some have a pretty loose definition of "closed"). Based on what the PM-3 beta testers...- marcoarment
