PONO - Neil Youngs portable hi-res music player

A lovely poetical image. Mine however, sits there next to my hifi just feeling part of the audio family, but retired and enjoying time to relax. I would use it more if the battery would last between uses! For me, it needing to be charged *before* every use (or some strict charging regime)...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

Hi all - are there many on this thread who have experience in trying to fix a 240 themselves, i.e. not sending to iRiver ? I bought one to fix (cost £120 or so) as a gamble purchase. It doesn't turn on, I have now changed the battery hoping it was just that... Are there any tricks or advice...

Help me to choose a used DAP.

I upgraded from my AK120ii to a 320 and greatly enjoyed the improvement - to a more detailed sound from the warmer 120ii and which I guess will be the sig of the 240 also? When going back and forth after getting the 320, I came to feel the 120ii was sounding slower and more muddy in comparison...

    FlaresPro/FlaresGold by Flare Audio

Remember that the Pro 2HD is now sold out and discontinued! You'll have to buy secondhand. Their twitter account said their sale was the last chance to buy them... and now they're sold out. Not sure what Flare Audio are doing next - they wouldn't say when i asked. Perhaps demand has been slow...

    Flare Audio R2PRO Kickstarter campaign

There are really cheap secondhand on ebay! Although I've never checked US ebay... Some in the UK for £50 Buy it Now. Mine are on long-term loan and my R2Pros broke a few months ago (the cable/plug issue that others else had but I avoided for a few years) .

The power of naming something! One is not the pseudo of the other.. they are both different ways of achieving the same thing, for different circumstances.

Try it for non-HD tracks - you could get a placebo effect if youre lucky!

    FlaresPro/FlaresGold by Flare Audio

I think the Flares cables are strong and robust. Having the connection away from the ear and instead at a place where there will be only potential strain in one direction is probably better for longevity. Not so good for cable rolling but there are ways to connect your own cables. Any...

Anyone seen that Flare Audio appear to be having a kickstarter soon on some minature ear trumpets? lol

    FlaresPro/FlaresGold by Flare Audio

I compared them both directly for hours on my AK320 ... but now I can't remember exactly my thoughts but I'll try. I tested mostly on some 2L label tracks (an HD track label) but also on some field recordings. When comparing the high bitrate, well recorded audiophile tracks.. it was hard to...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

I disagree - there are loads of them out there. Straight-through 4-pole to 4-pole with all the contacts following through to the exact same positions on the adapter as they are in the DAP's socket. That's what most adapters are.. It will say if it does anything other than that as it will be...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

It wouldn't be the iems or cans being damaged, the only slight possibility would be damaging the DAP if there's some problem with having a driver connected between Left and Right signals.. I don't think there would be. A driver works by acting on the difference between two voltages. If you...

What are your concerns with the TRRS to TRRS right-angle adapter on amazon?

    The Astell & Kern AK240

Huh? You seem to think that there is some kind of active electronics happening inside an adapter.. That's odd. Yes, the 2.5mm balanced output of a DAP uses a TRRS socket. The headphones have a TRRS plug. When you put the TRRS plug in the TRRS socket, the Tip connects with the Tip, the 2...

    The Astell & Kern AK240

It's a straight-through 4-pole to 4-pole adapter. That's what I find puzzling.. People see it labelled as for " headphones with mic" and think it's not for them.. therefore they have to go out and spend £100 for the same thing that someone has labelled as "for audiophile, balanced headphones"...
