    So I tried to update the drivers to 4.60 but win7 tells me I have the latest drivers, and the  av710 control panel says 5.12 next to drivers even after I installed the 5.40 in xp service pack 2 compatability mode. I set it to 2 and 44.1, and in foobar I have WASAPI speakers (envy 24) selected...

    I think I found the definition of "harsh" and "overly bright".

    Although Im a big fan of The Doors some of their guitar solo's really wreck havoc on my ears. For example, 2:00 to ~2:28 and 4:00-4:45 of Light My Fire. Ouch! And maybe the last ~25 seconds of Touch Me. But not so much compared to Light My Fire. EDIT: It was on the 'The Best of The Doors...

    All the stuff I previously mentioned is in V0 mp3 format. So I assume that shouldnt be the problem.

    For example, some bands such as The Raconteurs and The White Stripes sound really gritty and have lots of crackling. Crazy by Gnarls Barkley is another excellent example, almost the entire background is crackling. Other bands that are of the same genre such as The Arctic Monkeys/Bloc Party/...
