Sennheiser HD 800 - price control?

It's interesting how nearly everyone in this thread laments over the price of HD800 and how overpriced they are. I would even pay $2000 for them. They are that good for me and I consider them a bargain at the current price. As for Beyerdynamic T1 - all the pre-order prices I've seen here in...

Got the HD800....the cynic is now speechless

    Twisted Pear Buffalo Sabre DAC

Well qusp, I think your desoldering work was needless. It doesn't matter which way you solder the common mode chokes. Russ comments about it over at the TPA forum. Concerning testing - a look in the schematics cannot harm. You'll see that the chokes are in series with the main lines. If the...

A Twisted Review: HD800's Calculative, Clinical and Sterile Soul

GuyDebord, thank you for your impressions. It's nice to see some other responses from the other side of barricade . When I received the HD800, I felt similar - great technical prowess, yet somewhat uninvolving and sometimes harsh in the treble. I didn't get the goosebumps during intensive...

    Twisted Pear Buffalo Sabre DAC

I received my Buffalo32s kit on Thursday. The package didn't feel anything special, though quite heavy. But how surprised I was after opening it! The packaging was exquisite, just see for yourself: Every piece of kit in a separate labeled box, wow! You outdid yourself Brian. Now I...

    Twisted Pear Buffalo Sabre DAC

Since the MUX receiver utilizes transformer coupled inputs and outputs, it doesn't really matter. Personally I like to isolate all chassis connectors, then run a star ground scheme inside, whose central point is connected via a ground loop breaker to chassis ground. Some people left the audio...

European meetup - post your ideas here

Hi all, I would definitely come, if it takes place in Central Europe - Berlin or Frankfurt seem ideal to me. This way I can bring some of my gear.

    HD800 balanced cable options

While I agree that the stock cable is impressively built, the high resistance is rather troubling. I measured about 1.1 Ohm on every conductor. A cheap thin copper wire is about < 0.1 Ohm/m.

Turn to page 5 of your HD800 owner's manual (all silver frame HD800)

What's silver in that picture? I see the same color scheme as on my pair. The light gray color is the result of a bright spotlight. It's not photographed very well.

650'S After listening to the 800'S for a month or so.....

What's interesting, once you get used to the oversized "put-on-and-disappear" earcups of the HD800, every other phones touching your ears will feel a bit uncomfortable or strange. After about two weeks with HD800 the swap to HD650 felt really weird, even though they were touching only the back...

    Break-in for HD800's?

I haven't counted it exactly, but I agree that 50-100 hours is a mark when the highs loose their slight hotness and grittiness. Actually, with components and cable change I can make them even subdued now.

Sennheiser HD800 Certificate for Frequency Response Arrived

I too received my Sennheiser HD800 certificate today, probably I'm the first in Europe : And here is the frequency response itself: No 6K treble peak there. It's no surprise I find the highs perfect .
