eXStata Build thread : Electrostatic amp designed by Alex Cavalli

I guess I'll just shelve this project for now....  Which stinks cuz I just sold my last Stax amp, but it seems like the right thing to do in this situation.   Hopefully I can come back to it in a month or so.  I ll have to contact the seller about the transformer.  Thanks guys

eXStata Build thread : Electrostatic amp designed by Alex Cavalli

Of course, as well as much of the eXstata thread.  I guess I'll just duck into Valve Amplifiers and see if I can find the answer to my questions.

eXStata Build thread : Electrostatic amp designed by Alex Cavalli

I've built a couple of stereo tube amplifiers, but they had a bit more directed information than the exstata.  Either way, it would be a lot more helpful to have some assistance...  I am extremely careful and am attempting to clarify a lack of understanding that I have before finish wiring up...

eXStata Build thread : Electrostatic amp designed by Alex Cavalli

Hi guys, I'm wiring up my exstata at the moment and I have a couple of questions.  Still trying to figure out which end of the soldering iron to use.  Ive built a couple of kits, but this time I bought a mostly completed board from a fellow headfier, and am a little confused about how to hook up...

Need help debugging digital balanced attenuator (Amati by luvdunhill)

you dont happen to have any pictures of the board...  i bought the exstata and the guy threw this board in with a spread sheet that contained all the parts, but thats all the info i have.  i havent been able to find anything else about it.  currently, my issue is that the proper din jack doesnt...

Need help debugging digital balanced attenuator (Amati by luvdunhill)

Best portable FLAC player at a reasonable price?

T51/sflo2 is the way to go.  I had  a D2 that I loved, but the SFLO2 is just a better all around player.  Its line out is excellent, and its headphone jack will amp most any can out there decently, and stacks up well against the low end ibasso's and such.  Pairs well with my grado sr225's and...

    Teclast T51

This player sounds really good.  Really really good. I use it to drive my HD 580's and my ATH AD2000's without an amp and they sound better than everything but my full blown Stax 404 setup....

Thin membrane layer around Stax drivers.....

excellent! thanks for the help. ill try the tape. its a very small tear, probably from my ear bumping the film through the opening. anyone know what the material is? im gonna throw some more foam over the driver covers, and rebuild the headband which was broken. i really like them. they're a bit...

Thin membrane layer around Stax drivers.....

I was looking at my Gamma's today, from which the inner foam had long disappeared, and i noticed a thin membrane around the sators. I looked around online for a bit and didnt find any info pertaining to it, so I figured one of the Stax gurus around here might know. Is it just a "dust cover" or...

eXStata DIY Electrostatic Amp for Intermediate DIYers

Ok, so I'm new to DIY amp's, but I was wondering if its possible to build an eXStatA without a printed circuit board? They seem to be pretty tough to get a hold of. Can I point to point wire it from the available diagrams? I'll be building another couple of amps first, but I'd like to order the...

Cases and enclosures: What are the constraints?

Great stuff! Lots to take into consideration. Anybody hear of any "vertical" builds? Something like the Stax SRM-300. Intersting visual presentation potential, though i would think the fact that heat rises might cause some issues, as well as the fact that you'd have to do some hefty soldering...

Cases and enclosures: What are the constraints?

This is all really great info. Thanks everybody. It didn't occur to me to check for vibration, but thats a really good point. Ive been eyeballing designs in the forum for ideas on how ventilation and sinks can be incorporated into design. Whats the deal with dust? is it better to have side and...

Cases and enclosures: What are the constraints?

I'm interested in building and designing cases for custom diy projects. I have access to a metal shop, wood shop and machine shop to some extent, so i was wondering what I should take into consideration with my designs. Are there any particulars i should know about materials? I know heat...

eXStata DIY Electrostatic Amp for Intermediate DIYers

I'm also interested in trying my hand at this. I'm in love with my stats, and this would be a good complement to my setup. Where do we get in line for the boards?
